Times may have changed, but it's still all about the money, and the profit they're expecting Prince to give them.

thank you! Bart has a creepy addiction to Prince.

BartVanHemelen seems like a person who comes to this site with facts. He’s good at researching, he knows his stuff about Prince, and he’s NOT an ass kisser. It’s good he’s not afraid to post here even after years of uptight fans hating on him. Since someone compared me to him, I’d say he’s needed around here and I hope he doesn’t leave this site. I don’t agree “nobody gives a fuck about Prince” but I do agree with him that Prince is an oldies act and this is why Prince keeps incorporating the young ones. If Bart appears like he has “a toxic relationship” with Prince it’s not anything out of the ordinary. I think fans who get so offended and act like they love everything Prince does are “creepy”. I think they're part of #TeamPrince and I hope you guys are rewarded nicely for all the 'work' you do to help 'promote' Prince. It would be nice to actually love the new music Prince and Kobalt Music Group might release but since his people are already trying to promote his next female protégée, seen standing on stage holding a guitar, I doubt it will be interesting. I’m sure the young girl will look beautiful but I think it's safe to say we can expect more of the same being Executive produced by Prince.

Well, I've been listening to these kind of predictions for 10 or 15 years now, and they haven't fulfilled. I think physical record shops are in danger, which is sad enough, but not physical music.
Anyway, back on topic: given the quality of Prince's output nowadays, I don't mind losing some releases. If he publishes a new physical album, that's enough for me.

both side of the coins are CREEPY. People who love everything that Prince does AND those who hate everything he does but CAN'T turn away. If my enemies spent so much time thinkin about me I'd be honored especially for twenty-five years.
Yes there's "TeamPrince" and there's also "Team I hate everything Prince does but i'm so obsessed with him that he owns my time and space" AND Team "I hate Prince cause I met and used to work with him and he dissed the shit out of me and I can't do anything about it so I release my anger on a public forum"
Bart is free to post here if he wants though. His opinions can be debatable on a discussion forum. I just think its funny because I've never seen anything like this.

Make that 1995, not 1988.
At least Bart ALWAYS gets his facts straight. I still think he brings a lot of balance to this forum. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Well, since this fact is something only Bart can really clear up--
HEY BART!!!!
What was the last time you really liked something Prince did?
Let's see what he says. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
While we wait for his response, even if it's 1995, that's 18 years. So, here in the U.S., that makes his disappointment with Prince's work old enough to vote. That still seems long enough. [Edited 5/21/13 20:20pm]

Oh leave the guy alone! People have a right to their opinions, and YES, even when it concerns Prince!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Oh but they HAVE fulfilled, they're fulfilling at this very moment!
I don't know in the US but fact is that in France record stores are indeed disappearing very quickly, and the records stacks in the stores that sell other things such as books, games and movies are shrinking every year. Also more and more independent acts release their products in digital shape only, because it reduces the costs.
But the most interesting fact is that ALL my friends, and I mean ALL of them and I know a greal deal of people, mostly people aged 25 to 40, switched to digital. U give 'em a CD and the first thing they'll do is to rip it in the computer because the computer is their "player" (they don't even have a CD player anymore outside of the comp's one). How does CD survive in this? It doesn't just because it's not handy. it's just easier to play a file on a computer that's switched on 24/7 than to grab a CD and put it into a player then take it out and put it back in its box and grab another CD and so on: what a HASSLE! Now u can even have ur mobile phone with the music inside connect automatically, wireless, with ur car's music player and launch a song the minute u start the car
As for compression the fast evolution of drive space and download speed will soon make Flac or similar formats replace compressed formats so quality differences won't be an issue.
Last year, for the first time, digital sales in the US were more important than physical sales, and these figures will keep evolving every year to the advantage of digital (it just have been the case for the last 10 years so why would it stop?). Music is a business, what sells is what survives, what doesn't sell dies.
Look around u, if u hang out with people who r less than 45 who still uses CD's? And when they stop selling who's gonna manufacture them? It's like people who couldn't believe CD were gonna replace LP's and cassettes. They did. It's a mere fact of life: technology always wins.
The same is happening with movies: video-renting stores have almost all disappreaded in France and more and more people switch to digital and once again as soon as the compression/download speed question is settled people don't care anymore about having DVD's or Blu-rays and just plug the comp to the big TV screen. The funny thing is that none of my friends believe that physical records or movies have a future but many still can't believe that BOOKS will disappear because book is such a sacred objets and it wasn't possible to enjoy books and comics on a traditional compiter the way we could enjoy music and movies. But now that we got i-Pads and all these other readers believe me they will just as well because once again it's cheaper and more handy. It tends to be a human reflex to stick to what is familiar, to believe that "this can't happen" just because "this" is new and was unthinkable of 20 years earlier, but look at how our lives evolved in the last 50 years: our lifestyle has so very little in common with our grandparents'...
So give or take a few years my bet is: - By 2020 most record companies will have stopped manufacturing CD's, save a few prestigious, expensive collectors editions. - By 2025 most studios will have stopped manufacturing DVD's and Blu-Rays, save a few prestigious collectors boxsets. - By 2035 at most (it will take more time) publishers will have given-up manufacturing paper books, once again save the few pricey deluxe collectors editions.
The future of cultural data is digital. Fact of life. Even the future of the human body is all technology with these nanomechanics things being close to be all over our bodies

the way this press release is worded gives me a bit of hope that there will first be a "3rd eye girl" album (which according to previous reporst prince will only be singing on 2 songs) and then a decent prince album later this year, perhaps in the fall.
at the end of the day, i just want a new "prince" album. if we get that this year i'll be happy. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think we're going to derail the thread if we continue this debate. Also, I see this issue in exactly the opposite way. I don't agree with even the smallest detail of your comment, so no point in continuing the discussion.
As far as predictions go, I don't think many people would have predicted the recent vinyl revival, a return of something so far away from recent technological developements. It seems that I'm not alone in valuing well crafted cultural items as opposed to digital files.
Anyway, let's go back to the new Prince contract!!!

oh bless..here we go again. Some on here have very, very short memories!. Come on, remember the 777 projet or whatever it was..promises of this and that blah and ooohh look it fucked up!. Just remember this 'freedom he has craved' has been with him for years now, he cannot blame anyone but himslef if he has chosen not to take advantage of it or fuck it up. He's the boss so the buck stops with him. Prediction:
1 3rd eye girl album release, limited physical distribution. Video released for Fix your life up, little rotation on video channels or radio [because it's shit!]. Album will be available digitally via the 3rd eye girl website in shit quality rather than a lossless format. Album will flop across Europe but will likely hit top 10 in the US for a short amount of time.
P will declare the project a success based on dodgy LOL concert ticket sales and the fact that the 'art' was created and released!. P will then lose interest very quickly as he...
..moves to his latest 'cock project' i.e. the guitar holders robot CD.
2] Release of said 'cock project' CD - refer to Andy Allos project to see how this one pans out!.
3] The people at Kobalt will be sitting around on New Years eve reflecting on what a weird year that was..'hey we worked with Prince..but it didn't turn out as planned! and we're broke ..and he owes us $$..and how come he did deliver the promo stuff he said he would....wow we were expecting Purple Rain 2 but got Disney rock....'
You know where this is heading..have your coffee..wake up..and get off the train as this journey is all too familiar!!

So there is an opinion for you.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Actually, I second that. Bart most definitely has a place here, and he's a veteran of the Org.
I get what others are saying, but I'll bet that Bart has actually liked some of Prince's more recent stuff. I'm betting he likes at least some of the 'Lotusflow3r' album, likes some of what Prince is doing now, and probably really enjoyed the Jimmy Fallon performance of 'Screwdriver' and 'Bambi'...
Bart is indeed full of criticism most of the time, but he's not the only critical ORGer, and I think he provides balance with his particular brand of criticism.

there has been a few times where Bart's comments were pulled for being offensive and he's been questioned many times on his "facts" and when he cannot answer he dissappears. Balance is always good and it creates a good debate, he is definately welcomed here. but for someone to complain about someone for 18-25 years is not normal. I know define normal, but just think of it as someone you know who complains about the same person for so long. you would most likely tell that person, "Enough!" I view it as creepy. Oh well. Just my opionion. Back to the topic at hand.

You know, there's an easy solution to your problem with Bart......if you don't like his whining, then just don't read his posts! No one's forcing you to read his posts if they bug you so much. Just ignore them, because I don't know if you're aware of this, but your whining about Bart's post is just as annoying as you consider his whining about Prince.

agreed...without people like Bart this site would be a very creepy, cult like place....hmmm a bit like NPG Music club used to be!! Bart rarely calls it wrong, too harsh sometimes BUT tells it like it is.

funkyhead said: ...Come on, remember the 777 projet or whatever it was..promises of this and that blah and ooohh look it fucked up!... What in the world is/was "the 777 project"? I consider myself relatively well informed when it comes to Prince (although admittedly my interest has waned quite dramatically in the last few years) but "the 777 project" isn't ringing any bells. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
