Check The Record

Anyone else like this song? I was listening to my copy of the Dakota V boot and this song came on. I actually really like this song and I have no idea why Prince & 3rdEyeGirl haven't pulled this one out. I'm pretty sure this is the only performance of the song ever and the song was pretty good. I think it might have been reworked into FixUrLifeUp because they do have a lot in common. Anyway, who likes this song and would want it to be played again live or in a stream or released as a single???

I like it too, and hope it shows up again. Not sure I hear the similarites to FixUrLifeUp though. What elements are you referring to?

I like it too. Love the enegry. It's one of the gems that I have on my iPod compilation of the Dakota Shows and LOL Tour. I just hate that it ends so abruptly, making it difficult to segue into the next song.

Yeah... Upon relistening to both songs I can't even find the similarities myself. The basslines to the two songs sound sort of similar, except that Check The Record's is slower. But that's just my observation. I also just like the way Prince sings Check The Record over how he sings FixUrLifeUp. It sounds a lot more natural and less preachy.

That Dakoda version with the solos is pretty bad ass!

At first it's like a good groove and Prince is singing some

wacky Prince-like lyrics.. and then the solos kick in and

it really takes off! I love how Prince's solo just keeps coming,

he's tearing that shit to threads! LOVE IT!!
I also like how it segues right into Cause & Effect.

I like hearing C&E played live. I don't think it's any stupendous

song, but I've always liked it and the live versions have good energy.

I know right! I dont get why his live performances are so full of passion yet his studio takes of the same song sound cheap and tacky. I'm sure FixUrLifeUp is great live, but the studio version is so dry. I honestly think that if Prince is going to release rock songs, he should just do a live run of the song and avoid mixing it too much because the magic gets lost in the mix. Look at Fury :S, great song, bland studio take. I'd hate to see Prince destroy Check The Record with a studio version, but I also really wanna hear the song in better quality.
