Love the podcast. Great way to inspire to go back and listen to the old favs. I'm late to the Peach and Black party but I've been going back and listening to older episodes. That Lotus Ep is killer. Morning after discussion alone. But damn Lovesexy is a great album. I still remember the guts it took to walk into the store as I young 14 year old and buy this record with a naked Prince on the front. 1980-Present

Excellent broadcast as always. Informative, playful, detailed, engaging and cat nip for the Prince fan - your podcasts may even be reviewed themselves in 25 years time! I've never been a great fan of this album - but do love "Alphabet St", "I wish u heaven", "When 2 r in love" and the 2nd half of "Glam Slam". However, after listening to the podcast and the the album, its gone up in my estimations. I've always been a massive fan of the track "Lovesexy", so glad that you gave it the praise I think it deseves - what a mad over-the-top tune. Top moment for me? Captain's explanation of part of the song where the 'big bad monster' comes along and Prince scares him away with his guitar solo. Heh, heh, heh. Priceless. I also love the look, colours, clothes, hair and motifs of this album. Had to go back and relive the Dortmund "Livesexy" experience after listening to you guys. It was a top time to be a Prince fan in the UK, at his critical and commercial peak. Saw him for the first time after being let down with tickets for Parade and Sign of the Times tours, so travelled to Paris to make sure I caught him at the Bercy with "The Revolution" fan club. Ahh man. Totally freaked me, finally got to seem him after 4 years of teenage fandom, and I must admit I couldn't hold back a few tears of joy with the opening synths of "Little Red Corvette". Phew! Wicked memories.

I wonder why the songs on Lovesexy didn't do better in your Top 20 Greatest Prince Songs ... Ever poll. I would think if people really sat down and thought about it longer, Anna Stesia and Lovesexy would've both made the top 20. Instead, I think you said they were 40-something. G'day Guys, Thanks for what I think was the most enjoyable podcast review to date. I always look forward to your reviews and I don't know whether it's because your'e Aussies (as am I) and it's more relatable with your anecdotal perspectives or whether it's just the chemistry and often unique theories during your discussions...either way my point is I really enjoy your show and want to thank you for a brilliant episode. Sure hope you continue well in to the future.
I hadn't thought of the guitar battle in LoveSexy quite the same until it was discussed. When Prince begins his guitar solo to banish Spooky as you said, there is a "wow" said by either Ingrid or Cat? this further supports your theory of the guitar banishing Spooky in a battle scene and the onlooking female proclaimig in awe "wow".
The track LoveSexy is one I was secretly hoping he would perform live when here last year. It would have made an astounding concert opener, can't you just hear the voice booming "New Power, New Power...Sydney..Give it to me!", the band launching in to a wild an anthemic version of what would still make a memorable live track. My hopes are renewed for a 3rd Eye Girl rock performance of what be the original conception you spoke of. Fingers crossed.
Thanks again, and for what it's worth...LoveSexy is a "10" for me also.

Wasn't The Line replaced by I Wish U Heaven? What was the original configuration and how was the album sequenced? Anyone knows? The wooh is on the one!

Diamonds And Pearls better than Lovesexy? I know everyone has their opinions, but Tony M's "Mr Money Minder" Speech almost deflates the entire album. In fact, just having Tony M on the album is enough to warrant it being called a weak Prince album. DAP isn't a terrible album, and even Tony M couldn't wreck the great "Gett Off." But Cream is pretty much an update of T Rex Bang A Gong, and Push is pretty much Eye No from...Lovesexy!!!

I don't know if it's been mentioned on this thread, but the "bizarre" sample is from the album Uncle Meat (1969). I think Toejam suggested a different album. I only discovered that was where it was from a few years ago and to realize that there was a Zappa sample flung in to quite a few Prince songs (even if it's a factory sample) was pretty awesome for me!
OMG I would commission you guys to do a ZAPPA podcast to get to hear you ramble on for a few hours about FZ! Name your price! "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Hi. First off, apologies for taking so long to listen to this episode. Lovesexy has never been my favorite Prince album. Far from it. But having listened to your reviews I gave it another crack and you guys helped me notice so many new details. And consequently I appreciate and like it a whole lot more. I still think it's over-produced, and Glam Slam and When 2 R In Love will always be dreadful, but you guys helped me focus on the artistry of why I first fell in love with Prince's music. And the arrangements and vocal work on Lovesexy are fucking extraordinary. So thank you again, and goodnight.
