Howard Stern plays Prince "Manic Monday Demo"

Anybody listen to Howard Stern today? He went on about Prince for a while and actually played the Prince demo w Appollonia of Manic Monday. I know Stern is a big fan of Prince. Kind of cool to hear him play the demo.

Curious to hear what it sounded like, much difference to The Bangles version?

delicious

He's said MANY times on his show that he loves Prince music .. but thinks as a person he's an epic douchbag. Like most of us I guess...

There's more than enough research one can do to back up the thesis that Prince is a douchebag as a person. I'd also consider adding ignorant, dogmatic, incoherent, shallow and delusional to the list.

CRAP .

totally missed it... been listening to howard and robin a LOT lately... I LOVE THEM!

Howard is a smart man... so of course he loves Prince's music..

Man, to have Prince interviewed by Howard would be incredible.. because Howard would totally ask the stuff that WE would want to know... he would have NO FEAR of going there and he wouldnt just kiss Prince's ass...

so alas, Prince will never go on there... though it would be GREAT for him to do it.

Speaking of manic monday... i love the fact that you can sing the words of 1999 to the tune of manic monday or vice versa.. they fit with each other perfectly... i think they were written in the same sessions.. i think..

So funny that this came up...

*

I've been listening to older Stern shows recently on my drive to work, and towards the end of the show from Mar. 30 2006, Prince's publicist gave the Stern Show the privilege of playing "3121" first! So they put on the title track, and it's going too slow for them... so they start beefing it up with the screams of a staffer getting a Brazilian wax, and a show contributor farting into the mic when he thought no one was listening! It was hysterical.

*

Then they went to "Lolita", and gave it about 20 seconds, before bailing.

*

Howard did say he loved Prince, but moaned that he would be terrible interview. And he's definitely correct in that assumption. There's no way Prince would sit down and submit himself to a true, in-depth, revelatory examination.

Download it and see, it's been circulating for decades.

the thing is - i expect that there is an earleir version without Apples on it. so that would be the real demo, this version played it just an outtake rather than a demo (no?).

But yes it is almost exactly the same as Bangles version, their verison is slightly sped up with better vox, but the same backing tracks are used (i believe)
