Purple Rain lp inner sleeve

I've just started buying all Prince's vinyl albums again after losing all the originals a few years ago after being flooded out, so I received purple rain today, the inner sleeve is completely different to the copy I bought in '84.

The lyric side has a painting of Purple Rain (just like on the back of the PR single) with the lyrics printed on top, my original had a pic of the sun hitting off what I presume is Lake Minnotaka (wrong spelling I bet)

Does anyone know if there was two inner sleeves produced and shipped out randomly or have I got some kind of bizarre rarity ? confused

Great site, they have a scan of the lake sleeve being discussed too.

If you have a " Suzy " logo somewhere on back cover, it's a Yugoslavian pressing with that unique inner.

I think I have both versions but I couldn´t find the picture on the site you mentioned. It´s a great website and I looked it up under "Purple Rain" but I couldn´t find it.

The "lake" sleeve is also mentioned here:

It's difficult to link to individual pages of sleevographia because it's all in frames, and linking to the individual frames kind of messes with the layout/navigation (and also is kind of impolite to the site owner) - but it's listed under vinyl catalogue / purple rain / purple rain album / USA [7 pix]

pic is from sleevographia, but hosted on a freehost for bandwith.

It reminds me of how the Org used to look.

So does anybody think the background picture of the inner sleeve has any meaning to it? I mean, it could just be some arguably cool picture of light shining on the dark waters, but it's certainly no 'Purple Rain' we are seeing there.

Me too, begging the question whether the Dawn and the Purple Rain are metaphors for the same thing or experience.

Maybe the Rain proceeds the Dawn

His 1st reference of the Dawn (as well as Purple) is from Leaving 4 NY (1976)

Leaving For New York

Sitting there on the purple lawn
U've been there since dawn

17 Days

the rain will come down, then U will have 2 choose. If U believe, look 2 the dawn and U shall never lose

Closing out the PR album credits:

Thanks 2 all, may u live 2 see the Dawn.

Yep, great collector's reference.
Is there a clean highrez scan of this?
My sleeve is a bit tattered of all reading and holding in the early years.
