Best Prince albums to Keep Faith

I was wondering what Prince fans felt would be his best album or albums to listen too in order to regain faith in living and confidence in yourself. Currently I'm battling Major Depression and Anxiety so I was just wondering if others have had to battle this and if so is there any Prince album that helped you in any way to get through? Thanks

Lovesexy album

1999 album

The Time's first three albums

Fruit At The Bottom by Wendy & Lisa is also a real feel good album to me

Why these albums ? nit because of the messages, but rather the energy that they give you. and they also keep your mind from negative thinking. in other words, fun music can keep you off wandering and wondering for a while.

Any live show on DVD by Prince can help too, or watch as many vids of Prince's TV life performances on YouTube or DailyMotion. smile
Wish U the best and 'fun'.

That's very personal, I guess it's just the music you love the most that can help you. In my case, I find Around The World In A Day (the music and the lyrics of several songs) very uplifting.

DIAMONDS AND PEARLS is swirling with positive and uplifting messages and the musicality is also decidedly lighter than Prince's typically dark neurosis that plays out in the studio.

Songs like Walk Don't Walk, Live 4 Love, Willing and Able, Strollin, Cream, Daddy Pop, Diamonds and Pearls, Money Don't Matter 2Nite, Jughead and Push are littered with "be yourself, find your spirit, and be the best you can be (no matter what the world says)" kind of messages.

love,

Spirit

I agree with this. Diamonds And Pearls' lyrics often have that positive individualist message. Definitely, together with Around The World In A Day, those would be my two uplifting albums from Prince.

Hmmmm....I guess it would be 1999 and/or the album from the symbol set that has

7 and....well, shoot. Can't think of the name of the song now. You know, the "anthem"

song. razz

Also, Rites of Spring by Igor Stravinsky and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. These are

both very powerful. smile

er

I guess this is different for everybody. If there's one Prince song that tells my story, it's Another Lonely Christmas. Yes, leave out the details like skating on the lake, but that song actually happened to me! But it didn't make me like the song any better. Prince's music DID help me through that difficult time, but I cannot reccomend any song or album. It's just what appeals to any listener the most. That's the power of music. It can uplift you, but it is different for everybody.

Thanks you all. Actually this is great advice I got from everyone. It's not about listening to an album that matches the sadness, but about just listening to albums full of energy and fun to re-inspire. smile

This is a great point, Spirit. That probably helps explain why I like those little, lesser known songs like Strollin, Willing and Able, Push, and Walk Don't Walk.

All that said, I've been through a lot of depression myself. I find music feeds the sadness, for me, especially listening to ballads. It's not bad because at least I'm feeling something. So maybe for me, a fun party album with good beats would work, so that's 1999 for me.

Thanks controversy99.

I agree completely and I would even suggest that it is those utterly delightful lesser known songs that, together with the classic hits, make Diamonds and Pearls a quite brilliant record overall (even taking on board the well rehearded critiques of it).

I find that 1999 is still quite dark and ominous, even for a party record. Nonetheless, it's still one of, if not my actual, favourite Prince record.

In any particular case of the blues, I would concur with thedance's viewpoint and slightly extend it, to suggest that to really help with a turbulent transition, try turning the volume UP and cranking out the entire Black and Lovesexy album's in sequence for a full 2 hours, thereby soaking in the hedonistic funk bible juxtaposed with the fervent spiritual awakening occuring during that infamous era, and ending with those delightful and uplifting finale notes on Positivity.

It will make you want to play it all over again.

Can you imagine if someone says The Rainbow Children? (Although I must caveat that by saying the monster of an album absolutely renewed my faith in Prince as an artist).

I agree. And I would add that those sweet and delightful "smaller" songs contribute decisively to it being one of Prince's best albums. In Diamonds And Pearls, he is at his best regarding songcraft.
