Nightclub

Tell me what you think...

Prince opens his own nightclub where he is, in a way, the house band.

Maybe he doesn't play everynight...maybe he plays all night...depends on his mood.

When he's not playing there is a wonderful dj spinning all the great music you won't hear on the radio. Or top notch bands that are indie or don't have a record deal.

And no elite-ism...Your clothes...your hair...we don't care. Come in...chill and have a great time.

And a nice dance floor...

I'd be a regular at this nightclub. Well, as regular as a working woman with two kids can be without having the state take the kids away.

Any thoughts? Besides "dream on" or "it will never happen" because that's a given...

Ahh, he has already done this. It was called Glam Slam in MPLS. But he sold it because there was alot of gang shit/crime going on in the area. It is now called The Quest, but he no longer owns it.

Prince also had Glam Slam clubs in L.A., Miami, Tokyo and Paris. But I think these were just financial failures.

Um, from what I heard about the Glam Slam, there was plenty of "elitism," particulary regarding the women. If you didn't have The Look, your presence was not really welcome there.

In fact, if I am remembering correctly, an author who wrote about Prince even mentioned something about this in a book.

Don't believe everything you read. I never saw that the many times I went there.

I never got to see the Glam Slam(s)...did Prince really spend a lot of time there? Was it really his club or like a Planet Hollywood? I also am not talking about a chain. One club near his home so as not to spread himself too thin.

Yes! He was there a lot of the time, always arriving sometime after 11:00pm...

It was really his club. biggrin

If you ever venture to MPLS, The Quest... is the club that took over when Glam Slam shut down, it's still the same basic design, with very few structural changes. The main difference is the entrance is now through the left door, and the place where the store used to be, is now the "box office" entrance.

It's missing the symbol and all the Princely decor. Chairs and tables are the same, the VIP booths are still there, upstairs, the Erotic City room is still there...

Oddly enough, I spent so much time there, that I still see it as it was...

But the "feel" is only a distant memory sigh

The Quest...

Have you noticed that The Quest is really competing with First Ave with the kind of bands they bring in? Alot of bands that used to only play First Ave are now mainly playing at the Quest.
