This song is very funky. It's the lyrics and the meaning behind them that I don't like.

I love it. And sadly, there's a lot of truth in the lyrics.

Lyrics are too religeous for me.

And to much of a blame game.

Whilst believing that he's know the right path, but the rest of the people don't.

I don't belief in right or wrong.

I prefer an aproach of understanding without excusing or apologizing.

There will always be a hierarchical system in groups of people.

And there will always be instititutions that establish power over people.

It's the catch 22.

People who like power, will be atracted to these positions.

The people who would be most suitable for the job, resign from it.

Because they understand the responsebility and the nature of the job.

For example slavery has been part of human life since humans have evolved.

Tribes in Africa held slaves.

That was not only common in Central Africa, it was troughout the continent.

The Roman Empire under Aurelius were very happy when they captured a Germananic male.
The tall, big, blonde Germanic males were great slaves.

And do you think the Chinese Wall was build by volunteers?

There still is slavery as we speak.

Nothing has changed.

Only nowadays also Black people make profit by hiring people for labor that don't even earn a dollar a day.

There will be a layer of people that are at the bottom of society.

Vulnerable and they don't have acces to the means, recources, network, skills etcetera to get out of their position.

And worldwide it's especially women who are vulnerable and are overrepresented in these lowest classes.

If people only would take wat they need in stead of what they want.
There would be enough for all of us.

I do believe that every person has an individual responsebility to reach out to others.

Noblesse oblige.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

So do we justify misogyny and homophobia here because it exists at more pronounced intensities abroad?

Justify?

That is a very strange term for an innate tendency.

Homosexuality exists in 5 -10 % of every population. It's just that in some areas people will not come out, because it's dangerous to do so.

I guess I didn't understand why there was a reference to slavery existing in parts of Africa to mitigate the condemnation of it in the history of the U.S.

And if that isn't why it was mentioned, then why was it?

I'm in the same boat like the rest of you apparently...jamming tune, but the lyrics are kinda off...but musically, one of his absolute best James Brown-inspired tunes!

I also loved the fact that he initially distributed it via Napster..aahh...the bygone days of 56k modems and jacking the telephone cord from grandma to get online for a few minutes each day biggrin

A great song indeed but parts 2 and 3 blow it away IMO, Prince at his best. They are like funk introduced intevenously in one big hit.

If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!
