I am still new to the org. So go easy on me. Why do u guys hate Rave? I know it is not 1 one of his best but The Greatest Romance is wonderful! Man o war and Prettyman are damn near classic for me! Please explain.

Nothing. The folks here are just super critical. Sure it is not his greatest work but it not the trash the folks here would have everyone believe. People on this forum love to tell u how much they hate this or that prince song or album. Really outside of a couple of albums and songs everything else that prince has done has been trashed here. And i don't mean that it was just ok or not the best but that it is complete trash. With fans like this i feel a little sorry for prince. It's kinda of like the people who trash michael jordan now because he's not scoring 40 points a game like he did in his youth. They want perfection each and every time. Must be dishearting to work hard on some music only to see your so-called fans trash it.

Rave ain't that bad, it's just the running order
doesn't really seem to flow, and the title track
is a bit limp.

i think Rave is a good record. a few weak songs - like Hot Wit U, in particular. But overall, very strong. especially Prettyman and ManOwar.

I love rave !!! "strange but true , is one of my favorite songs!!

1. Too many guest appearances that don't live up to the potential of the collaboration.
2. The production - I was all excited to know that under the moniker the album was going to feature "special guest" producer Prince. I thought I was going to hear some kick ass Linn Drum beats. Undisputed only lived up to a fraction of the expectation.
3. Cheesy ass music & lyrics. Save I love U But... and The Greatest Romance, the lyrics suck major ass.

Rave un2 the joy fantastic has the ingredients right, but the recipe has been fucked up.

there's nothing wrong with it, per se. it has some pretty good songs that were put together pretty well. however, it just doesn't hang together as a very good album, in my opinion. less so than Crystal Ball, even. i think it should have either been shorter with fewer songs, or he should have used fewer songs and fleshed them out to 5, 6 minutes each. it just jumps around too much, too many different styles that don't sit well next to each other.

and i know that he's always been diverse on his albums. things like SOTT had many different styles, but there was an underlying sound that that tied them all together.

I think its rather "nice" I think the opening song kills it right off the rip though.


I absolutely adore "The Sun The Moon and Stars" his version of Everyday is a winding road is much more than the song deserved, but he totally made it his own.

It does lack some soul though

Greatest Romance is cool I like some of the remixes better of this song, didnt PHARREL work on one of those mixes...SMF Pharrel is and sorry I may be a traitor but I cant get over his stuff with Jay-Z and Snoop!

Strange But True is up there with Lady Cab Driver as possibly my favorite Prince song ever. No matter what else is on that album doesn't matter!

BTW - Rave In2 is overall better, but is missing SBT!

The album is really a nice one. I love the production (especially the drum programming) on Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic (the song). I think this thing has sound.

There are some beautiful melodies on Rave (Tangerine, Wherever U Go..., The Sun, the Moon, the Stars)

I absolutely dig the video for the Greatest Romance Ever Sold. It is a beautiful clip (and doesn't look cheap like some of the rest, especially from High).

It is not my all time favourite but I have a sentiment for this record.

Ilove u, but I dont trust u anymore, is a pretty deep and personal song to Mayte.

Of course Rave isn't the best Prince album, but I actually ask a lot of prince fans the same question, what is wrong with Rave? I mean we all like different things which is good, but I seriously like this album..!

I need to listen to it again. I only REALLY like about two cuts on there and the rest are ok.

it isnt a great "ALBUM" in teh sense that there is a theme throughout...
Wherever U Go... sounds abit like Sting&ThePolice's "i'll be watching you".
just the rhythm...reminds me 2 much of it 4 me 2 listen2 it.
Also ch7 here had a tv promo running during the 2000 Olympics & th emusic sounded IDENTICAL 2 Wherever U Go...
so annoying TV jingle-resemblance doesnt help its cause 4 me
