What Style of Prince is your favorite?

P has a lot on his plate. He's regularly weaving in and out of a lot of styles - rock anthems, freewheeling slow jams, band-centric funk, club bangers, floaty pop tunes, faux-orchestral synth ballads, etc. among all his styles and genre-juggling, what flavor of Prince is your favorite?

Personally, I like a banger. Gett Off, Hot Thing, Black Sweat, stuff like that.

Second would be the slow jams like Insatiable, Scandalous and Adore.

My favorite incarnation of Prince will always be the 1999/Purple Rain era Prince up until Around the World in a Day.

The music was the perfect amalgam of what I like, a perfect blend of Rock, Funk , Soul and New Wave and the New Romantics scene where you could identify the single ingredients yet the end result was something entirely unique and different. I also loved how he incorporated early elements of Electro Hip Hop back then, like that instrumental version of Possessed.

I miss that kind of music these days and it is the kind of music that I most often go back to. The energy, the passion, the romance, the lyrics...I can´t get enough of it even though I´ve been listening to it since 1984.

It has become a bit of a trend among the diehards here to bash Purple Rain but it will always be my favorite era and favorite album by any artist, ever. The whole aura, clothing, style, how he would use and reuse bits and pieces of that whole Purple Rain feel and themes on b-sides, in liner notes or adlibs during rehearsals where he´d hint at other songs from that era is something I miss in his current output.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

He is at his best when he blends all those genres into a sound that's totally his own, something that no one else could have done. When Doves Cry, Sign o'the Times, If I Was Your Girlfriend. Those songs can't be put into one genre.
I like his funk, but George Clinton is funkier.
I like his guitar playing, but Hendrix was better than anyone.
But the songs I mentioned above are unique. I've been missing that 4 a while now.

Live slow jams, breakdowns and chants. E.g. "Slow down..." or "All your lovers..."

When he makes "happy" sounding songs that have interesting arrangements and a sense of artistry to them. Most of the Dream Factory / Crystal Ball sessions in other words. I'm happy that he's chosen to do more songs in that same vein during the last decade or so.

I like his music the best.

The diversity of it.

I like it that he surprises his fams every time.

Never know what he will come up with next.

Never a dull moment.

My all time favorite aspect of Prince his music is that it's one of a kind.

Not to be categorized.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.
