Wanna Be Your Lover, but it took a friend making me listen to SEXUALITY before I realized this guy was the bomb. From there I got every record out at that time (pre-1999) The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

wel, the first Prince song that I ever heard was "dirty mind", my father had just brought home the "dirty ind" album and as soon as he got home he put it on, so naturally "dirty mind" was the first Prince song I ever heard, I liked it, but at my young ageI was like "whatever".
The song that got me hooked was "1999", it was a friday night, no school, so I could stay up late. So I was watchin' some late night video show (it might have been mtv...my memory isn't that great) and the "1999" video came on---I was hooked. Consequently the next week either my dad or brother(like I said before my memory ain't that great) brought home the "1999" album. ~KiKi

the very first Prince song I ever heard was "soft and wet", on the radio, in 1978. I was about 5 or 6, and I had my own room, with a small radio in it. Used to have it on OK 100 FM all the time. I remember thinking it was a woman singing it. lol ***************************************************

Little Red Corvette. It seemed to be playing non-stop for a year back in 1985. It was re-released in the UK as a double A Side with 1999.
I then bought Parade the year after and it blew my mind. I next bought Purple Rain, Dirty Mind and Controversy - I'm not sure why I didn't buy Around The World In A Day or 1999 until later. I think that when I saw the track-list for Controversy with titles like "Private Joy" and "Jack U Off" it swung it for me - as did the cover-photo of Dirty Mind. I was a hormonal 14 year old and I equated Prince with sex and that made him thrilling. I think that's what makes his fans so defensive. How many of us had to play "Erotic City" in secret when our parents weren't around? Prince seemed like a guilty pleasure when I was a teenager.

I wanna be your Lover
I was a teenager, fresh license, 1st car (a brand new silver turismo with a sunroof)...blasting out Prince and Teena Marie while all my burnout AC/DC and Van Halen friends looked at me like I was nuts.

Of course there was Purple Rain, but the first song that really made me Love Prince was Pop Life I absolutely love Pop life (extended version) I got hooked on Prince...waaayyy back in the day...the very first song I heard was...It's Gonna Be Lonely...and to this very day...whenever I need to unwind or just feel good about something...I pop in the "Prince" cd and I start with that song, and my mood instantly improves. ___________________

finally someone older than me! yes it was soft and wet and we thought it was about bubble gum, I was 13. I had a subscription to Right On magazine and when the one with him on the cover came I was like ooh look at those eyes! Hooked ever since..really liked the 1st record, hid the fact that I LOVED that he played guitar! I recall first hearing “Controversy” and “1999” around the same time. My sister used to listen to these constantly when I was a kid too young to care about popular music. I only remember thinking the guy was singing “count your blessings,” and 1999 really scared me. They were both memorable, but not captivating at age 10. I actually think I first saw Morris on TV and liked him because of the whole “black Charlie Chaplin” look. I had no idea Prince even existed until Purple Rain.
After Purple Rain hooked me to the whole Prince scene ("Let's Go Crazy" in the movie trailers netted me the very first time I heard it), it was really cool to discover the connection to Morris and that Prince, in fact, was the guy whose songs I remembered hearing as a kid. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I seem to recall in 1984 (when I was 3), I first heard Prince on the video for "Let's Go Crazy". I worried about Prince riding his motorcycle without a helmet on.
