Hi Folks,

I am getting annoyed with people reactions when I tell them I love Prince and I am big fan. Usually they turn up their noses...and say they think he is creepy or scary...or say he hasn't had a hit in years...or he makes weird music..but on a positive side some say (just like with Madonna) have a favourite period when they did like Prince...like when he did Purple Rain...or during Diamonds And Pearls

What are your experiences on this subject?

And do you have many friends who also like/love Prince?

Just wondering!

Its usually oh I dunno why you like him his gay or various other patheticness. They claim his talentless which is also complete drivel as they have happily danced to prince songs I've played them and sung along with the faves like 1999 and nothing compares with you. Needless 2 say i told em after it was prince and they were like and then claimed its shite and they new all along so i dunno people do look down at me for likin him but i couldnt give a stuff no more

• People assume that Prince has only had about a dozen albums

• EVERYBODY says "I loved Purple Rain".

• Most people find it strange that I am a Prince fan. They just don't "see" it. I guess they figure I should be a Dave Matthews fan or something like that!

• I become their "go-to" guy for Prince music that they can't find!

• They all ask about the name change, and what that was all about.

hah.. most people laugh at me, others just dont give a fuck.. i suppose most people are surprised, i guess i dont look like a prince fan (because i dont dress like 'the kid') ..but then prince fans are normal people, and not like hiphoppers with the blingbling, the baggy pants and all the sweaty baksetball gear.. (yuk) well, all that sheit.. prince fans tend to be older than nineteen aswell..

nope, dont have anyone to share my prince passion with, my BF really freaked a while ago, when all i could talk about was "prince this, & prince that.." but i have since then somewhat convinced him that mr purple is un-fucking-believable, & therefore i can play all of his slow, sexy tunes while (ehm) 'rolling in the hay', so to speak.. hah!

Being that I'm a fan of LOTS of different types of music, no one's really surprised that I like Prince. And I live in Minneapolis, so when I tell people I'm a huge fan, they usually just say, "that's cool," and tell me their cousin's best friend's mother's brother used to see him at the roller rink when they went to school together. Everyone in Minnesota has a Prince story. And then they ask about what he's been doing lately. No big deal.

Well, most people i know think P makes/made good music, but they are very annoyed with his attitude, and the way he looks in general. And they wonder if he's still alive, and they really look surprised when i show them, he's wearing a decent suit nowerdays.

Most folks who know me, know I'm a huge Prince fan. A lot of the hip-hop guys a work make dumbshit jokes about it behind my back, thats cool, becuz a lot of their heroes like Prince and we're influenced as well by Prince, so go figure. a lot folks come 2 me with Prince questions as well. Those that find it weird that I like His-Royal-Badness can kiss my ass.

they usually act with indifference. either that or they give the typical answer:

"i really like 'wdc'/'lrc'/'pr'!!!"


....and i ain't a stinkin "fam"!!!

Thank you for writing your thoughts down anyway...really interesting to read I am not alone in my being weird and liking Prince, now matter what people tell me he is.
A friend of mine is a really HUGE MJ-fan..he has got a much harder time being a fan then me...lately MJ has got so much bad publicity..(partly due to his own weird doings) ...that Prince compared to MJ seems rather normal!!

I also can relate being interested in many more groups/artists then Prince alone. Because more then anything I am a Bruce Springsteen-fan, but besides him I also like/love U2, Queen, The Beatles, Oasis, Black Crowes, Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley, John Denver (sorry got that from my parents!), Marillion and Wet Wet Wet...to name just a few...

That is why I am so happy with Prince.org because I feel connected with other Prince-weirdo's and get the news-facts first at the same time!

But keep your thougts on this subject coming please!

when people find out i love prince they usually say

a) whats he called now?
b) didnt he have some of his ribs removed so he could suck his own dick?
c) does he still release albums?

the most annoying question is obviously the second one!!

This is how they react usually; pitiful.

I was in a store here in Sydney the other day buying Michael Jackson's whole back catalogue and the subject of the MJ doco came up and I ended up saying, "yeah, but I just can't wait until they bring out the same kind of doco about PRINCE" and they were like (they were two ditzyish girls who obviously didn't know much about music) "yeahhh! or should we say ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE! a hur hur hur hur"...

...well I had to laugh and say, "he's back to Prince now, actually"

and I proceeded to tell them he'd just put out a live album, etc...and of course they were surprised, thinking he hadn't had a hit in years/didn't record anymore at all.

Well. At least they thought he was cool enough to want to see a documentary about him.


P.S. I will never be a "fam". The word is "fan" no matter what Prince says.

Most say that they like some of his stuff but they appreciate the fact that he is a great musician even if they don't like most of his songs.

I used to get crap back in high school. Like he's a fag and shit like that.

Now most people I talk to give respect to him. EVERYONE around my age (32) likes Purple Rain and know he is a great live performer. A few friends have become fans lately becasue of me and them listening to ONAL in my car.
