Prince on Clapton

Does anyone know which show it is (I think it was in 95) where Prince talks about Eric Clapton during a song?

Was it London 95 maybe?? hmmm

He was speaking about "drunken Bono" there for sure and if i remember correctly he was also talking about Eric Clapton while on stage as well.

You might want to check the recording of Wembley March 4th for this, I'm quite sure it was at that particular gig!

It was in Monaco 5/94 during "Glam Slam Boogie". He says something llike "Zeke, you keep messing me up (soundguy?) He doesn't want me to whip his hero Eric Clapton" . " Eric my boy but you know what?" ... & he tears up some bluesy hooks.

I was there on the 4th I think and pretty sure it was something like "Eric Clapton is a funky motherfucker! but u cant play funk in flatshoes, u gotta have your ass up high"

he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He mentioned Eric at a Paisley gig back in 95. I remember he said, "Eric Clapton isn't God to me...I like..."

I can't remember the name he said. It wasn't someone I recognized.

Eric Clapton is brilliant as guitarist, and okay as a singer.

.

but afaik, he hasn't that many really great songs,

.

"Layla", "Wonderful Tonight", and the song about his dead son. Those are good. There's also a good song on Journeyman, the leading single (the title escapes me).

.

Not that I know his back catalogue like I do with Prince. But isn't he (Clapton) a wonderful musician, with only about a handfull truly great songs(?)

.

what Eric Clapton said about Prince in '89 was nice, "Theres' no middleground - you either love him or hate him (Prince)". (something like that).

.

I guess EC showed much respect for Prince, didn't he?

Wembley Arena, Saturday 4th March 1995

"Now, Eric Clapton, is that his name, Mayte? Eric Clapton, he's a bad MF but he wear them flat shoes! I can't stand it, I can't stand it, I need my ass up on high!"

I think I read around the time that he saw Clapton at Royal Albert Hall.

clapton is a huge prince fan...his favourite song of all time is purple rain ...which..when you consider all the greats he has worked with since the 60s..is some compliment.

I'm about as bigger Eric fan as Prince, and I think it's more that throughout the 70's he ended up having a huge alcohol and drug problem, which impacted his music a lot, before and after his work is a lot better.

Thanks for the responses, I'll check them out.
