Flood of Boots?

In the last 6 months there seem to be a whole slew of "new" unreleased tracks hitting the web. For years it seemed like we had exhausted most of the vault material, it used to be you could stay off the org for a year and all that would happen would be a 30 second snippet of cosmic day had shown up. Now you literally can't log off without a previously uncirculating track making the rounds. And also a good number of these tracks show up in almost album quality.

There have been more "new" bootleg songs "released" in the last 6 months then were released in the 8 or 9 years prior to that. Things are EXPLODING, which is strange, because Prince's copy-right police seem to be just as strict as ever.

Why now? Did a former Prince associate higher up the boot food-chain open their personal stash and it's gradually trickling down? Is it all just one big coincidence?

A quick list off the top of my head of stuff recently:

Don't Say U Love me

Lust U Always

An American In Paris,

For Lust,

Vicki Waiting remix,

A Couple Of Miles

Same Page Different Book
Our Destiny (studio version)

The Line (LoveSexy Version)

Fucsha Light (that you can actually hear)

^ LOL knew that was gonna come up too. Definitely not him releasing the tracks, as a song as raunchy as 'Lust U Always' would have never seen the light of day

Jukebox With A Heartbeat has been out since 2001 when it was featured in one of the NPGMC ahdio shows.

Don't Say U Love Me has been around forever along with the other Martika tracks.

Same Page Different Book and Chapter & Verse were put out there by his own means.

Womderful Ass has been around for about 3 years now and is simply a higher generation tape source cleaned up further.

You forgot An American In Paris, For Lust, the Vicki Waiting remix, the cleaner Baby You're a Trip, A Couple Of Miles and the full length version of Can I Play With U? with Miles' overdubs.

Errant and DJ thunder,

thanks for all the productive positivity! Despite the fact I already mentioned my list was slapdash. You guys have both shown me the error of my ways, and proved to me you guys are WAY bigger prince fans then me. Thanks for setting me straight :p

ermmm... Hope you don't take offense. Factual corrections don't necessarily suggest the one doing the correcting is trying to be better than the next guy. Sometimes it's just setting the record straight. That's a valid part of discussion, no?

Good topic. Good questions. I'm curious, too...

There's no big mystery: some collectors who had been given these tracks years ago with the promise not to share them finally decided to share some of them, which made some people very angry it seems (there was a thread about this a few months back and some people who were directly involved spoke about it quite openly). Prince has nothing to do with this and these songs had escaped the vault in the 80's alongside the rest. More circulationg material is in possession of collectors: it's possible that some of it eventually ends-up being made public, who knows...?

The story may be a bit different with 4 Lust, as its uncertain whether it was leaked by Jill herself or by one of the aforementioned collectors.

This.

There are a ton more tracks which we know that a small circle of bootleggers have, but remain uncirculating amongst the rest of us.

Yes, I heard this and thought it might be partially true, but I also know that there are a lot of people on the org who'd like everyone to think they're a lot more important then they actually are. The only hard evidence I'd seen for the 'inner circle' was that snippet of cosmic day, but of all the options it seems to make the most sense I guess.

But then I guess the question is, why'd they sit on these tracks for so long and then FLASH FLOOD the market with them now?

seems this thread comes up every 3 weeks....

I always picture the "inner circle" collectors on their death beds thinking "Thank GOD nobody ever heard Cosmic Day!"

I appretiate the inner circle, I think it must be difficult decision to share or not to share.

I know there is an idea that there is some form of elitist hoarding going on (having never knowingly met somebody that has obtained all this material) this maybe the truth in some cases. But I think the vast majority is just agreements that have been made.

People may have given their word and be respecting the trust of somebody by not leaking it and that is to be applauded, Leaking the material (as great as it would be to have) could get others in trouble and could end up in friends losing jobs or getting sued.

I'm just gratefull to hear what has been leaked (it's way more than we were supposed to hear) and would love to hear more if somebody feels comfortable doing it but It's material I don't have a right to hear.

biggrin

Maybe your right but they can still get sued and they still might be just keeping their word to somebody that they won't share it, Which is reason enough in itself
