1999 alternate cover? I was looking on ebay and found this record:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/E...3a751f774d
At first I thought it was just a single but then I looked at the provided pics. It has a tracklisting of six 1999 songs. What is this? I have never seen anything like this nor heard anything about it. Is it genuine and rare, or is it a fake? I think it is pretty interesting and would like to know all of the info I can get.
Thanks!

I got this one. I think it´s the UK version of the album (and it´s just one single disc) See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

When "1999" was realeased in the UK (and possibly Europe in general) it was felt that because Prince had had no hits in the terrority up to that point, that to release a double vinly record was too much of a risk on Warner Brothers part, so the reduced it to a single disc...
I hadn't known they had a differnt cover too!! The right to free discussion is protected!!

The cover is a well known promo poster from several photos from that era. "Climb in my fur."

I used to have this uk version of the album. they cut out d.m.s.r., free, something in the water and lady cab driver from the tracklisting. I used to have this poster of this picture that my aunt bought for me when I was 7 yrs old back in 86' and hung it up on my bedroom door.

No, they cut out DMSR, International Lover, Automatic and All The Critics Love U. Free and SITW were on there.
Used to dig so much on that record back in the day.

I don't think it's really rare, but probably not valueless either.
I used to see it around often in the 1990s when I went to record stores that sold used LPs. Found it in libraries as well.

There is also a version of that cover (indeed the single disc 1999 album) that has the same picture, but the coat altered to be green. (I think it was Canadian, but am not 100% sure on that)
As it is, it's a rarity if anything and it doesn't add anything musically. For similar fun, there are three versions of the Controversy album, with pink, white and blue letters. (not to mention the shower poster that came with some pressings of that album)
Have fun collecting. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

The "green" cover was only released in Portugal. I have a copy in my collection.

I own the single LP like shown in post 1....
I believe from UK.. (can't exactly remember),
it has the famous "Eye" logo on labels, if I remember right..
the "eye" logo later shown on the Chaos & Disorder cd as well (smashed to pieces).
Not rare at all, but still really nice... Prince 4Ever.

Oh, to be young and innocent again. I remember the feeling you got when finding something new and different. Australia also had this. One with a sticker will prob go for $20 nowadays. The Aust 12" of 1999 the single, also has the same pic but all in blue, similar to the green Portugal issue.

^ Hi Finky..
thanks a lot for posting...
the cover pic looks a bit strange to me
(I mean why did they change the colour from purple to green?) Prince 4Ever.

I have two different UK pressings of the single album. One has the original Warner brothers lable and the other is the "eye" lable more associated with this record. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
