Not seen a thread on this beauty. It's really good, those who have Dakota V know what to expect. No idea what the tapers are using these days, but i'm impressed with the sound quality on this.

The band sounds great to me, sure they're working things out but overall come across very well. Donna gets given a few solos, which you may or may not enjoy. Prince is relatively chatty and comes out with some hilarious crazy bollocks (especially during Screwdriver. I'll just say 'counter clockwise' and 'planets' for now. At least HE knows wtf he's on about!)

All in all a worthwhile download. Don't ask where, cause i don't know! wink

8.5 out of 10.

Grabbed this a week or so ago, for an audience recording it's pretty good. I'd have loved to give P $15 or so for this but sadly he won't release the soundboards, instead he thinks it's better for 3rdeye to tell us they have the soundboard and keep it to themselves sad.

Oh well, I'll still pay him if he puts it out.

RIP sad

There's been nothing on this one Gentster. it seems standards are slipping on the org. What did you think was better? V or VI?

I've grabbed all the weaker mastered 'Eye' set, these two make a great little set on their own.

Respect to the tapers/tweakers.

I mentioned it in the 8 cd Eye Records thread where we were discussing Dakota V, but nobody picked up on it.

Is it really better than V? I've been a little busy lately defending my Master's thesis and playing the title role in Lear, so haven't had time to check it.

King Lear? not something you hear everyday! lol

It's on par with V for sure.

they are both decent quality but the performances are pretty bad ... these will make u miss the power of the gold era npg and wonder why prince is working with these girls .. bass player is good but thats about it

they do seem to lose the plot a bit during the quieter moments.

then again, wasn't this night their debut as a band?

He problem is people love being stuck in the past. If you legitimately don't dig the band that's cool but constantly comaparing them to past bands is just plain tired. Not only that, these were their first live performances. They weren't all that bad. Too much over analyzing. But then again, what do I know? I prefer under the cherry moon to purple rain lol

utcm is a classic in my book .. i dont buy into that comparing to the past arguement .. i have found plenty of prince music from the past that i did not hear when it came out that i loved instantly .. its just a matter of good and bad .. i dont even like the gold era .. but the band was far more respectable at very least .. i am really hoping prince will shut me up one day with a song, record or band that just blows my hair back .. hasn't happened yet tho

Weren't they even advertised as open rehearsals? I seem to remember something about PP being booked out and they needed somewhere else to play.

That's what I'm saying. If you listen back to the first avenue show of 86, a certain favorite band didn't sound all that good even missing some cues. But it happens. This was an open rehearsal. Not only that, this band minus, Ida is new to playing with prince let alone playing Prince music. Which is why she sounds the most solid
