The album is hardly perfect with its song choices, but reading these replies makes me glad you people didn't get to pick the songs to be included either.

Really?
Calhoun Square, Empty Room, What's My Name and Da Bang somewhere in the second half of that album. Old school 8 or 9 track album. Hell i might just have to playlist that.

Revolution? That was in 1776. But I understand what you mean. Well at least Obama is better than Bush so they're making some progress. [ Heres a pic tó summarize the progress:

So I'd want to focus on the more politically critical, or how do you say, stuff of the C&D era. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Calhoun Square, forgot about that. IIRC, wasn't Empty Room considered for it at one point. So P thought it fit, at least for a while.

i love it, one of the first albums i heard after getting into him. i agree with others who say that empty room & calhoun sq should have made it on there. i'd replace i rock & dig u better dead

No, adding those would be fine, but taking out the title track, "Into The Light" and "I Will". You guys are just sometimes. _ However, I'm pretty sure had "Da Bang" and "What's My Name" been on it people would complain just as much about them as they do about "Right The Wrong" or "Zannalee" with the configuration that came out.

People hate Zannalee? Really?

I don't, instead I LIKE that song.Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I loved this record then and I still love it, despite the "fact" that I am not supposed to like it as a Prince fan. I loved the band line up then, I loved that he brought Rosie back, I love how it all holds together as an album...WTF is so wrong with it anyway?
Sure, Right The Wrong made myself and anyone who happened to be listening with me LOL once the chorus hit, but it adds up to what is a really interesting song, stylistically. It's not really country, not really rock, not really funk. WTF is it? And that trio of guitar licks he does after the breakdown is SIIIICK. I love how you can hear his fingers snap during one of them.
I Rock is quite cheesy, but with a title like that it couldn't not be. But again, even if it's 100% corny, that amazing band (and Prince and Rosie) elevate it and makes it enjoyable. I love the "is the same kid U compliment," section of it where you can hear Camille on back-ups.
I love Rosie's contributions to the album probably more than what she did on D & P. I feel like she's all over this record and makes everything better IMO.
I hope he dusts off The Same December for the 3rdEyeGirl shows because I can't think of a better time to do so, and it's long overdue. Has he EVER done this one live? One of his best rock tracks ever FOR SURE.
This one gets huge appreciation from me always for being the soundtrack to my summer of 96, which was one of the best summers of all time. Now excuse me while I spray on some CK Be and relive the splendor of it all.

Zannalee's one of the best songs on there! I love Prince with a sense of humour, and hearing him portraying those cops still cracks me up to this day.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
when he portrays those cops, its like peeping tom jacking off because he says "ahhhhh...ahhhhhh" he's other character replies...."whats going on?", then "nothing serge 10:4"..... and at this very end when he closes out by saying "see you tomorrow....big ass" under his breath. I have to say that I always thought that the piano intro for into the light was just beautiful and it felt like that was the first time that Prince ever done something like that on record.

the way that the song "chaos and disorder" ends with a heart beating steadily and he nailed 90's rock with I like it there especially the chords and his falsetto starting off the song. I remember that he did chaos and disorder as a guitar instrumental on the last song "peach" during the sacrifice of victor live show that I stayed up all night to see on bet back in 93 and then slammed the guitar to the floor at the very end. Love this CD

This is definitely one of my favorite records of his. Everthing about it, the name change, the album art, the liner notes, the battle with Warner Bros., it all just makes for a really interesting piece in Prince history. The artwork alone stands out and pulls me in. I love the picture of the heart in the toilet and the little snapshots of his awards and guitars at Paisley Park, not to mention the vault itself! All of this just screams a haunting desperation and perfectly paints a very chaotic, tumultuous, and at times disorderly picture of what it must've been like in his life at the time and for me, is unlike anything else he's released. Without even listening to a note and just by looking at it, you get the unnerving feeling that something isn't right. And then you listen to it. And right off the bat, for me anyway, it's some of the funkiest shit I've heard him play, even to this day. I absolutely love "Dig U Better Dead". The bass, that screeching guitar sample, literally just makes for a jam and is seriously some funky stuff. I eat it up. [Edited 4/7/13 3:21am]

WOW....so I am not the only person that is so intrigued about dig you better dead especially for me being the lyrical content. I also wanted to add that bass progression with the keyboards, guitar, and bass at the fore front during the bridge is all metal or heavy metal so to speak. the part after he sings "we all come from the same december and in the end, thats where we go so lets go" and that bass progression starts up.....that is METAL. it just doesnt have the effects on the bass parts. thank you for your comments.

Not to go off topic, I just wanted to ask are you the guy that played sebastian in the movie "cruel intentions" because I bought tickets at a movie theater and saw that movie in the spring of 1999 and your avatar looks exactly like him. Ive heard the term "right the wrong" used a lot on tmz and those shocking celebrity moment tv shows when people critique how celebrities have messed up in their careers and Prince created that term back in 1996 or even earlier so he was ahead of his time for even making a song like that or the title for that matter.

01. Chaos & Disorder 02. I Like it There 03. Dinner with Delores 04. Same December 05. Calhoun Sq 06. Zannalee 07. Into The Light 08. I Will 09. Da Bang 10. Empty Room 11. Had U
that's the way i like to listen to it and as such i think it's one of his best albums of the 90s.
i've always liked "dig u better dead" just fine but it doesn't really fit the album anymore when i play it with this playlist because this way, every song has the guitar prominently featured or even leading the song.
it's funny how a few bad tracks have given this album such a bad reputation, especially since the good material is actually very, very good.

No, I am not in fact Ryan Phillippe. I guess I had a crush on him when I started up my org account and never bothered to change it. Maybe it's time. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

I don't, instead I LIKE that song.Me too. I'm into Muddy Waters & Howling Wolf & Lightin' Hopkins & Charley Parker, so I'm a bluesman alright. But just like The Ride, this track works better in concert than on record.

Kinda appreciate the raw flavour of the record but the songs fuckin' suck. DWD is a keeper, I wouldn't even wipe my arse with the rest of it.

I for sure agree with you on that breakdown! I love that part, it makes me love the song even more because of that. AND Rosie, sounds very good on this album than on Diamonds And Pearls! I give you that!
AND HE BETTER BRING THE SAME DECEMBER BACK! I don't think he has ever performed it live, I mean, he has a video for it. He also mentioned it in a interview, so obviously, he is aware of it. SO he has to to perform it! AT LEAST, we want him to! It's Button Therapy, Baby!
