Produced arranged Composed and performed by Prince in your opinion Prince is at his best when he compose ,perform produce or arrange? I think Prince's strongest ability lies in arranging.he can arrange a standard 12 bar blues pattern and make into something brand new.not that the other segments are lacking but i feel he is at his best at arranging [Edited 4/1/13 4:14am] | |

I would say the a good portion of his arrangements fall flat or don't jell into something that works to my ears (at least studio tracks). They are usually interesting experiments in trying to push a composition into something interesting through an unconventional arrangement, but not so successful as a whole cohesive piece a good portion of the time. The entirety of the Lovesexy album is agood example of this. But i think that was the concept behind it: too much energy snd spirit to form into a whole. For the small portion that do succeed, the results are timeless, like SOTT, kiss, when doves cry, le grind, 7, etc. But his relentless output of demos and songs show him to be a formidable pop composer dipping into everything from symphonic to rock to r&b to opera to show tunes. if arranged means he takes everything and completes it, then yes

In A Large Room With No Lights is another that fits the same bill

In my opinion, the test of seeing if his current band/proteges had/has his musical vision is to let that kind of composition performance arrangement etc happen. whether it be the pre Revolution, the Revolution, pre NPG, or whatever current NPG setup, and have to include 3rd Eye Girl
It really was the 1980's full that he had the most distinct 'Purple Music' sound that all fingers pointed to Prince 'Uptown Paisley Park Erotic City' Minneapolis etc
