  • someone mentioned it was mostly lipsync'd - everything except U Got the Look & It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night (in parts) was live IMO. Anyone have confirmation on this?

  • does an audio only version of this exist?? innocent

___

As far as I know the audio has been re-recorded/dubbed afterwards, because Prince was not happy with the original sound. Therefore sometimes it looks like lipsync...

A good friend of mine made a high quality Audio CD from the Video. Simply Marvelous...

The concert was originally recorded live in Paris, then over dubbed. The film was then shot with Prince lip syncing. Some shots are from the live show, but not many. I have 2 vhs tapes of the filming of "If I was Yor Girlfriend", "Housequake" and "Hot Thing" and it's definately lipsynced.

In '88 I made myself an audio tape of the film (played the VCR sound through the stereo and recorded/edited it -- a fun pre-CDR project.

I did the same thing in '88. I played that tape CONSTANTLY and nobody knew what the hell I was listening to. That was a great summer

YES -- I did the same thing with the MTV performance of SOTT -- it rocked, and now I have no clue where it is. sad Guess I'll have to be satisfied with my homemade CD of the SOTT film! music

I love SOTT; it's one of my favorite Prince releases ever, even though it is mostly lip-synched. It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night is the part I love the most, but it's also where it's most obvious that they're lip-synching. A lot of the time, the microphone isn't even close to Prince's mouth when he's singing. About six minutes into the song, right after you hear him say "A Train!" the camera comes back to Prince and the microphone is completely gone, but he seems to be looking for it, making motions with his hands and even looking inside his jean jacket. At least that's what I always thought he was doing.

But who cares about that? The whole thing's a blast.

If this is true, why aren't the 2 Wonderboy disks identical? Why have 2 if it's the same show? I'm hardheaded, I don't believe the whole thing is lipsync'd...

The live Paris disk of Wonderboy is nice because you get to hear the show uncut. It kicks ass. Plus if I'm not mistaken there are a couple of other songs on the boot of the live Paris show that they don't do in the movie version. The SOTT movie version disk is good because you get the visual with the songs and it's cleaner, i.e., the sound is better on some parts.

I'm hardheaded also. There are overdubs for sure, but I don't think the entire movie was lipsync'd either. And the Wonderboy disks are definitely not identical.

Okay, now y'all are confusing me! smile

Exactly how much of this movie is "live" and how much is lip-synced? I refuse to believe that the entire movie was lip-synced.And yes,I have read the DMSR book about how most of the concert was "re-created" at Paisley Park.I find this hard to believe.
