The Pros:

• the drumline coming out during SOTT
  
  
• when he's in shadow & he leaps off the stages/platforms/whatever in slo mo, and his hair flops ever so slightly
  
  
• he looked GREAT the entire show. Love the skimpy jumpsuits, the jean jacket, the sweat soaked shirt by the time he got to Slow Love, the funny little hat during Forever in My Life. The best thing was his hair slowly uncurling throughout, getting slightly messy for The Cross I shouldn't be feeling those things during that song, should I? :O
  
  Also, I love that he had on that huge furry coat during IIWYGF!! There was something so... girly about it, I loved it...
  
  
• Now I remember why so many people ask if he still dances, I'd forgotten how agile he was back in the day His energy was great & the dancing was comedy @ times, he even kinda laughed @ himself @ one point during Housequake. I don't know WHAT he was doing, lol, but it felt good to him & that tickles me. The fast head jerk in Hot Thing, & Slow Love where he licks the mic, steps back, kicks, sings a little then ends up on the floor enveloping the mic stand between his thighs
  
  
• the peach boots kill ANY boots he's worn ever, ever, EVER in life
  
  
• The performances were really, REALLY good. I loved Slow Love, his kickass solo in ICNTTPOYM (so damn HOT!!), Hot Thing (come'erre baaaby, I wanna talk 2 ya...), The Cross...
  
  But the one that killed them all - Forever in My Life/It The shrieking, OH MY...
  
  I gotta tell you what you mean to meee!
  
  When he dropped the mic & walked the fuck away like, "DAMN!! I'm SO good, I can't stand myself!!" I laughed my ass off b/c it's SO true! THAT may be THE greatest Prince moment EVER in history. Lawd, I had to watch it 3 times. Unbelievable & damn perfect...
  

The Cons:

• though they had nice chemistry, there was too much Cat. And her closeups during the first little sketch w/ Wally (where P is spying on them) were @ an odd angle - too "up the nose" & on the zit...
  
  
• exactly how many sets of shoulder pads was my boy wearing in that leather coat?? :O DAYUM...
  
  
• the fact that they filmed it @ the wrong speed is pretty disturbing, you'd think they could have recut it, added some angles, made it seem a little more on point. But the shots would have been very brief & I guess we'd have Rave all over again...
  
  
• I managed to sit through Play in the Sunshine I still don't like it
  

Remaining Questions:

• someone mentioned it was mostly lipsync'd - everything except U Got the Look & It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night (in parts) was live IMO. Anyone have confirmation on this?
  
  
• where oh where is the guitar he played during Forever in My Life? The one w/ the on it? I've never seen it resurface...

There is a audio-only recording with the music to the film. It's called Victory and it's really bad. Not a bootleg! No, no, no...

There is a brazilian DVD. It's pretty good and easy to find on Ebay

Like you I need a better copy of it too, and have my DVD pre-ordered through Amazon.com...however the release date keeps getting pushed back.

At the moment it says the DVD will be released on March 11, 2003 but I'm not holding my breath on that.

As far as I know the audio has been re-recorded/dubbed afterwards, because Prince was not happy with the original sound. Therefore sometimes it looks like lipsync...

A good friend of mine made a high quality Audio CD from the Video. Simply Marvelous...

There's quite a few over-dubs on it, actually - joe coco is right. But, the performances were live and definitely were NOT lip-synced!!! This is PRINCE we are talking about here, he don't need to do that!

The only reason that U Got The Look is sync, is coz it is the original promo video - I don't recall IGTBABN appearing to be synced. (which reminds me, I ought to go watch Prince bash those skins again - love that moment!)

So for those people, this Brazilian DVD may be worth it (I've never seen it). My VHS copy is still flawless, but I've only played it a couple of times.

btw. in 1988 i watched SOTT four times at cinema. Some other fans and i asked a technician to turn up the volume, and so he did! Man, the sound was pretty loud then. I think this is what the SOTT-Movie was made for -- cinemas with good sound systems! -

I only say this b/c the main lyrics (little boy got the notion, get some love tonight, etc) & the hook seem too perfect. I think those parts are prerecorded w/ them singing over it live. But that's just my opinion, Lord knows I'm frequently wrong

In '88 I made myself an audio tape of the film (played the VCR sound through the stereo and recorded/edited it -- a fun pre-CDR project.

About 8 months ago I made myself a fully-tracked audio CD of the film. ROCK. Will share -- and if you own the VHS of the film, I don't think there's anything legally wrong with a homemade CD of audio from the film.

Theres actually quite a few great quality Cd's of this concert. Beautiful Night is lifted atraight from the Video.
Best of all is Wonderboy. Its great quality, plus its 2 CD's, the second being the Paris 1987 show. This gives you a great comparison between the "Live" and overdubbed version. Result: they're not that different. Hes just that good! Most of the overdubs were done for purely technical reasons, not for performance problems.
