I'm in the business. your best bet is to find an original controversy album cover in pristine condition, you would need to find someone who has a scanner capable of scanning 12"x12"
then you would need to scan it at 1000% (to give you a 10 foot square image). 4-color process at 300 dpi is best, but keep in mind you need a lot of memory to do this. ( I prefer tiff files) Also find a large format printer and ask what's the best resolution for their scanner. Ours is only equivalent to 150 dpi. The printer will probably have to tile it in 2 to 3 pieces with a slight overlap, depending on their size capability. Then you have to sort of apply it like wallpaper on your wall. yes there will be the moire pattern, but who cares, it will still look awesome.

novabrkr speaks the truth. Sure you're gonna get some more quality from an album cover but not enough for perfection. I'm not saying this is impossible but like I said before Prince and his people are working from the original file which is the digital equivalent to a continuous tone photograph. What you would be working with is an album cover which is a grid of dots and ultimately you are creating another file which is made up of dots. Have you ever stacked two screen doors on top of each other? Unless they are perfectly aligned they create the aforementioned moiré pattern. This is not insurmountable but care must be taken every step of the way to avoid a pattern that will make your eyes hurt.
How can Prince be working from the original file?
thats Warn A Brutha marketing property
He didnt have that shit hanging around in his garage

We charge 8 per sq foot, so a 10 ft print would be $800, thats not including the graphics time, (scanning and prepping file for print, we charge $90 per hour) or mounting costs. (that depends on what method you use, but it is usually charged by the sq foot as well) best bet to find a friend with a large format printer. also someone who knows how to install...good luck, keep us posted!

Also worth to check if a printstore has price actions where they bill prints for cheaper. A copy shop around my corner has those actions around easter and christmas. I had a frontcover of an album printed on a poster, which normally would cost more dough. The material where images can be printed on have become more variable as well. That store around my corner can print on a complete door. Would be cool to see something like that in a house. I once was at an advertisment agency where they had an immensive 1960s image printed on canvas. The canvas was hanging close to the wall as a smooth curtain, so when they had to move, they could just roll it up and go lol. That 60s image at the agency looked something like this:
