No the material he has been putting out the past few years including the 3rd eye girl material is vomitrocious. Michael Jackson covers would be more entertaining than that crap.

If Prince added any more Michael covers, he'd have somebody else sing them (like he's done with them in the past), and nobody wants that, because it actually isn't more entertaining.

This is going to be a strange suggestion but Prince is on a rock kick so I would love to see his interpretation of a Flaming Lips song.

I always dig P's covers. For some reason, I first thought "21st Century Schizoid Man" or "Search & Destroy" but those are way too heavy for his purple badness. I'm also thinking pretty much anything Ziggy-era Bowie.

The very worst of Prince ( Jughead, 1999-TNM, etc.) are not nearly as cringworthy as Heal the World, Have U seen My Childhood, or many of MJ's supposed 'gems'.
Hell, "I just can't Stop Loving You" is about as vomit inducing as Arms of Orion, but MJ fans don't seem to be in on the joke.
I say Prince should keep it classy and avoid MJ covers.

I too prefer his own tunes, but I think he could do AMAZING things with these...
Heroes (David Bowie) Wild Horses (Rolling Stones) Cecilia (Simon & Garfunkel) Peace Frog (The Doors)

I was just listening to "Why Why" by Boz Scaggs and I think Prince could that song justice.

I'm iffy on the others, but Peace Frog might be nice.

a case of u is the only song he covered that does not totally suck live .. and he would probably make is suck live if he did it these days
i wish every time prince wanted to cover a song ... he just covered one of his own songs .. make the band learn it the way it is on record and cover it perfectly ... something old of course .. since his new songs are pretty bad ... just play it like it is on the record .. make it sound good .. he plays sly songs the right way .. he plays time song the right way .. he plays ohio players songs the right way .. ok so he butchers whole lotta love .. but it would be nice if he approached his own catalog with the same respect in trying to get it right instead of discarding all the sounds and little parts that made those songs so great .. only to throw in horribel horrible horrible cover tunes that every bar band in new orleans plays every single night .. ugh

Would love to hear/see
The Doors - Light My Fire U2 - Wild Horses U2 - The Fly U2 and BB King - When love comes to town Summer Lovin - from the Grease Soundtrack, seriously, was watching this today, wondering how Prince would perform it [Edited 3/29/13 5:25am] You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

Berlim-era Bowie Maybe Heroes, Always Crashing in the Same Car, Be My Wife, Blackout. Ashes to Ashes would be cool too.
Jazz standards, Cole Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers. And modern jazz standards, Thelonious, Shorter, Davis. Would all be cool.
Aretha Franklin would be cool too. Maybe Chain of Fools, I Never Loved a Man and Ain't No Way (solo piano). -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

And I would also love to hear him do Michael Jackson songs. But not the more obviously relatable funky Michael Jackson (Dont stop till you get enough, Burn this disco out, Dancing machine, Can you feel it), but some more unexpected like Dirty Diana (its not a simple rock, it has tour-de-force vocals), Another part of me, Dangerous, She drives me wild, Jam, Smooth criminal etc. [Edited 3/30/13 18:44pm] -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

I had a dream during the Emancipation era that Prince did a solo piano version of this song at Bryant Gumbel's funeral. It was so gorgeous, and I never forgot it. So it's pretty obscure and I guess selfish on my part, but:

I agree I like to hear him do his own thing. But, would be interesting to see him cover Bo Diddley, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and some older Patti Smith Songs. I'd love to see him try Opera.

As often as he is covering, I don't think he could justify any more than he already has. SO I ain't even coming with a list.
NOW songs, he has that he can perform..that reaches above any covers. I mean does Prince even realize all the material he has? AND can perform? AND Not all of them are 'nasty' It's Button Therapy, Baby!
