Living outside of Detroit and being a hardcore Prince fan for along time, I've gotten to be good friends with many of Detroit's Prince impersonator's. In fact during the late 80's thru mid 90's its been pratically a breeding ground for this hobbie. Recently, a new one surfaced going by the name of Prince St. Paul. And yes, he's changed his name legally to that. The thing is this guy has been hustlin people at karoke bars, clubs, and the 2013 International Auto Show by fronting that he's really Prince. Here's some links of interviews and performances culminating with a short video of him getting arrested at said Detroit Auto Show. I'm not hating on his tribute bit but the fact that this guy is hustling people out of money I take offense with. I saw this guy working a street corner doing "Kiss" to which I approached him just for conversation a half hour later inside a niteclub. The conversation took a quick turn for the worse when he told me he was really Prince. Needless to say, Big Chick got Chaka mad. To which I challenged him to perform the entire Glam Slam Ulysses to prove to me that he was really Prince. And any Prince impersonator worth his salt(Imho) could do this front to back, cyclops dude and all. Well, my recent highlight of this story is that one of my close friends who works for Homeland Security told me yesterday that they had to arrest him at the Detroit Auto Show for walking in without paying and charging people for autographs. Any impersonator is an impostor and any person who believes that Prince will sing at karaoke bars and walk among the general public taking pictures with people and signing autographs deserve to get hustled. The same way that Prince shut down Le Petite Prince, I wish he could do the same with people who impersonate Prince in their way of paying "tribute" to him.
