Why did Elvis Costello do the Tribute at Carnegie Hall?

I guess he let go of the grudge that he had when Prince didn't approve Costello's version of "Pop Life" which I heard a live version of and it sounded great.

I do think a show with Prince, special guests Elvis Costello and Diana Krall would be pretty cool...

YES.

I saw EC a year or two ago, and he played Purple Rain, which was pretty cool. Also, I recall in the liner notes for Blood and Chocolate EC saying he wanted 'Blue Chair' to have a sort of 'Raspberry Beret' feel.

One of my greatest regrets in all of music is that EC never dragged Prince onto his 'Spectacle' TV show. 'Course, P probably woulda just shovelled out the mumbo jumbo, so, whatever...

He probably has the same problem as most people here:

first he's mortally offended by prince. Then he comes back for some more

basically its because Elvis costello is Prince and vice versa
