Why did Elvis Costello do the Tribute Why did Elvis Costello do the Tribute at Carnegie Hall? I guess he let go of the grudge that he had when Prince didn't approve Costello's version of "Pop Life" which I heard a live version of and it sounded great.

In the video posted on OkayPlayer he compares Prince to Duke Ellington. Either he's really going out on a limb with that statement, or he really does admire Prince. I'm glad he was part of the lineup, I'd like to hear more. I wonder what a collaboration between them might sound like. His Bacharach collaboration was very good. I'm walking down Times Square In the Electric Daylight The sailors on shore leave stand out In their perfect white At the window of the world For better or for worse It's a perverse universe, my love I should have never walked Over the bridge I burned Now I know, somehow I don't feel so alone Everybody comes from nowhere There is hope, it loops up in the air I should have never walked Over the bridge I burned Now I know, somehow I don't feel so alone If you screwed up your eyes Professors and vampires Drank up all the tears I cried He feeds upon the pain And sometimes he sings to me A mocking bird in the twilight of infamy Now I know, somehow I don't feel so alone Now I know, they've burned one sinner And the others are set to follow "Climb in my fur."

Why would Elvis Costello have a grudge?
I do think a show with Prince, special guests Elvis Costello and Diana Krall would be pretty cool...

YES.
I saw EC a year or two ago, and he played Purple Rain, which was pretty cool. Also, I recall in the liner notes for Blood and Chocolate EC saying he wanted 'Blue Chair' to have a sort of 'Raspberry Beret' feel.
One of my greatest regrets in all of music is that EC never dragged Prince onto his 'Spectacle' TV show. 'Course, P probably woulda just shovelled out the mumbo jumbo, so, whatever...

He probably has the same problem as most people here:
first he's mortally offended by prince. Then he comes back for some more

Compares Duke Ellington to Prince. Respect paid to the greatest musician to ever walk the face of this planet we call EARF. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
