those wall size album covers

In the past few years everybody has been busy jerking off (male and female alike) to W2A tours, websites, benefits and such.

Nobody has mentioned the size of thise record covers Prince has been photogrpahed in fornt of..including inside sleeves such as the parade one with the other band members of The Revolution.

I WANT THESE

How can I be down? The Contorversy cover..Parade inside sleeve! ALL wall sized!

I think some of yall missed the boat on this one. There was also a large set up in that Screwdriver live video prologue hanging in Paisley.

I heard form some folks that you can take record covers etc to phot labs and they can enlarge them..but to those large lengths? with no reduction in picture quality?

I've never been one to decorate with Prince memorabilia - but those are cool.

If you can find a good quality Jpeg of what you're looking for, you can use these guys to print you out a custom job. They do cool canvas stuff pre done and cheaper poster type work as well. I've used them before, a good service at a good price. Make sure to use the coupon code

Prince has the luxury of working from the original files. You may be disappointed in the results from even a great quality jpeg. A high resolution scan of an album cover would be your best bet. The scanner opereator better be pretty good because we call that a rescreen in the trade and avoiding a moiré pattern can be diffucult.

The images would need to be huge.

For printing mere CD covers the images need to be about 1500x1500 px for decent enough printing quality (about 3000x3000px for professional quality). That's just 4.75 x 4.75 of printed space on a piece of paper. Now, you could probably get away with lower resolution (dpi) than that for "wallpaper", but I still can't even imagine how big the source files for the images would need to be.

novabrkr speaks the truth. Sure you're gonna get some more quality from an album cover but not enough for perfection. I'm not saying this is impossible but like I said before Prince and his people are working from the original file which is the digital equivalent to a continuous tone photograph. What you would be working with is an album cover which is a grid of dots and ultimately you are creating another file which is made up of dots. Have you ever stacked two screen doors on top of each other? Unless they are perfectly aligned they create the aforementioned moiré pattern. This is not insurmountable but care must be taken every step of the way to avoid a pattern that will make your eyes hurt.

How can Princ ebe working fomr the orongal file?

Good point, though I would hope he still has access to it. I was just looking through the covers hoping to suggest one that could be recreated from scratch but with no luck. The only exception would be The Black Album. I could work up a high rez print version for that one in a heartbeat. Hyuk yuk, I slay me.

I've read about that wall size poster was mentioned various times in the concert forum during the W2 series. I once had a postcard fomat back cover photo of a funk group upscaled to a mega format which was then plastified and attached on a foamboard. I think that the BMP file format is excellent for a front cover for a company to work with. Otherwise in a pdf format. Too bad that a photo can't be upscaled like vectors in a program such as Adobe Illustrator , unless one choses to use the trace function which changes the front cover photo in a graphic vector version. Then again, the 1999 cover can be adjusted like that actually.

Im not talking about the poster of him in front of the large one. I have that myself (thanks Pej!)

But the large print he is standing in front of in the poster

Why can the 1999 cover be adjusted but not the other ones?

Yep, I understood that you were talking about the covers themselves. The 1999 cover is a graphic drawn and printed cover instead of the Controversy front cover with a realistic photo of Prince himself. Drawn graphics are easier to work with in illustrator then a realistic photo. If a cover of Controversy is imported to illustrator, then a graphic traced version of it makes it workable in order to upscale to however unlimited size.

I got the "When Doves Cry" eyes from the Purple rain tour book done up 32"x32" and the quality is great.

Novabrkr is correct that you'll want to highest quality Jpeg possible.

My reply may be a bit off but I remember wanting the large promo posters used during the SYMBOL album release and asking on of the employees at a nearby record store if I could have them once they were done with them, he said sure but I realized a bit later that I would not want to go through the trouble of stapling or taping such huge things on my bedroom walls as a twenty year old as that would be silly. If you really like him that much and you at least eight feet of wall space to spare, knock yourself out.

Yes u are a bit off

nobody here is talking about stapling and taping these things to a bedroom wall like a teen ager

its about transforming some iconic pics to pieces of art/canvas thats suitable for professional framing and placing strategically in ones residence

Oh, I didnt know you brought them up. I never saw the post. Either way I agree with you and dont believe nobody else has mentioned them.

I think folks were more concerned with the Bobby Z benefit then Prince posing in front of the insert hand on Bobbys heart area.

And yeah, I felt that him having thise seminal records blown up etc meant somethinh as well..which is why I felt disappointed when they said remasters were not in the future earlier this year.
