While it sounds good RD, who are the survivors that went on to do great things?

Zappa has Steve Via and a handful of others and Miles has an endless list.

Prince has Sheila E (still looking good but musically?) then there' the list of hot woman he did...

confuse

One could even make the case that Carmen Elecktra has had a great career post Prince...20 plus years and still working...

Professor John Blackwell and Prof Susan Rogers here in Boston at Berklee Music School..

Just curious where the urban legend that he was a career killer came from.

Roy Bennett.. Set and lighteing designer for anyone and everyone who has a big tour.. Started with Prince..Now runs Gaga's Monster tour

If you want to go just by "household name", it could be argued that Carmen has had the most successful post-Prince career.

HAHA I mention carmen earlier.. She has worked constantly for over 2o plus years.. Very sucessful.. So, I'm trying to get how Prince became a career killer. Urban legend thats not valid

Earlier discussed difference is that Prince's camp was more popular chart driven with outlets such as V6, A6, Carmen Electra, and others. He had his studio musicians for some of those productions to finish the touch (good grooves or let's say "If A Girl Answers..."). Similarities with Miles' and Zappa's work is that as a musician, you have to be on (Steve Vai explains it in the 2 posted videos). In Susan Roger's recent interview she tells about Prince's instruments which were always plugged in whenever and wherever for recordings. So were his hired musicians basically, directly ready to deliver. Drummer John Blackwell received fines when he missed a beat on shows, in the late James Brown routine. Difference is that it was indeed just about musicianship itself with Miles and Zappa. Their demographic wasn't that much focussed on image driven media exposure.

er

Now that we're on the subject.... Miles has said that he liked Prince, but what about Zappa? Does anyone know if he ever expressed any like or dislike of Prince?

Interesting point. Just found a reversed topic about it from 2 years ago: Has Prince ever claimed F...sic Forums

I enjoyed reading Miles' memories about Prince in the Quincy Throupe book. Also checked if any subject about Prince is in the interview of Frank with Arsenio Hall.

Touchy bunch arn't you?

Mr Blackwell was a great drummer before Prince found him and Jimmy Jam/Lewis were successful at the same time as Prince was so I'm not sure what we're talking about here.

"Gone on to great things" and "working in the business" are two different things.

Did you really reference Carmen Electra? falloff
