Twenty-year old Minneapolis-based photographer Madison Dubé uploaded an “extremely short film” to her Vimeo page this afternoon consisting of Prince and his new all-girl (or is that all-grrl?) band, 3rd Eye Girl, rockin’ out at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios complex – rehearsing for his upcoming SXSW gig perhaps? Given the title “Plectrum Electrum,” we don’t know for certain if that refers to the name of this funk-rock instrumental or something else. What we do know is that we cherish any chance to see Prince show off his guitar chops (even if it means causing damage to a vinta...1 Epiphone) and neither Prince nor this video disappoint!

Why... can't I see... the cameraman/woman's reflection in those mirrors?

Anyway, love it.

Also, it appears that Prince is now 35 years old... does that seem right to you? lol

GREAT little instrumental jam, and Prince is back to his sexy/classy/pretty look. I dig the afro rocker getup as well, but it's nice to see his fashion sense has remained intact.

The return of the Doo Rag! Thank God lol lol lol

Love the music too razz

It's a solid jam video. I like it.

It makes me think. Am I really not digging Prince's MUSIC these days, or is it the lyrics that are so difficult to get through.

That's just me.

As for the vid. It's nice.

What are you talking about? There are no lyrics.

Love the music of this little jam so far. I'd really like to see a cd release though.

He/she is referring to Prince's other recent stuff, and wondering if they like this becase there aren't any lyrics to ruin it.

She...thanks you for explaining.
I'm firmly planted in denial

I believe that IS a cover of Led Zeppelin's "The Ocean" minus Robert Plant, probably for Saturday night at SXSW festival.

Hopefully he'll feel inspired enough by his own guitar smoke to produce similar used cigarettes that float in my beer.

One can always dream.

It's very similar. I'd say it was the inspiration for it, but it's different enough to not be a cover.

Dr Funkenberry said Spectrum Electrum was written by Donna Grantis...

in the video I couldn't help notice that not only Prince is playing her song but he's also wearing Her big silver Necklace from the 3rd eye girl photos posted yesterday... razz

What a massive great little fun tune !
Written by Donna, but we barely see her.

I love this GRRL band a lot, and I don't agree with someone here who sayd something like they lack of chemistry.
I love the drummer A LOT ! She reminds me in many ways of Sheila, she's fun and sexy, her style's different though. Good !

This little gem is perfect, and one feels that P had his hands all over this;
Solo, sound, chord changes, breaks...

Indeed, this style of honest video could improve Prince's output A LOT TOO !!!
I love him for letting those kids rock it up a bit, and being open for young new film makers like this girl.
It surely inspires him. He should let her do a video for his next single release.
It's far more better then the lame Screwdriver story vid.

He should get some mo' GRRLZ for this great band.

For me this band again has charisma, power and a freshness unlike the previous old school band...
I so hope he would drops the aweful NPG shit name, and change it into;

Pr1nc3 & The 3rdEyeGirl
or,
Prince & The GRRLZ
or,
Prince & The New Revolution. wink

The second part of this excerpt is the title Electra from Donna Grantis' CD.

Great jam! Great video! Love those toms and double bass drum kicks...

Now the most important question is: what happened to Prince's chest hair? LOL

That was awesome! I love it.

Can't agree that Donna wrote it though, not without at least a few big nods to Jimmy Page.

Got Led Zep all over it, but that in my opinion is a bloody good thing.

I'm dreaming of:

Rock/Funk 3rd eye girl album

+

Funk/Soul/RnB album by Prince!

That is all. wink

PS. I'm thinking Hannah is sounding awesome on the drums. I know others aren't so sure, but I actually think she sounds quite a lot like Michael Bland the way she plays. Those skins stay hit, that's for sure.

Can someone point out what the timing issues are, cuz I ain't hearing any?
