CONFESSION - I dig Jughead, I mean, I really dig it... I know some of you have questioned my sanity and musical sensibilities with the Newpower Soul appreciation thread, and suggesting Graffiti Bridge was Prince's most soulful album of the 90s, but that ain't nothing compared to this revelation...
I dig Jughead, I mean, I really dig it...I adore Rosie's soulful intro, I actually like the beat, I enjoy Tony M's rap, I especially love Rosie's section, and I think Prince's guest vocal is cool. Don't worry if u're lookin' silly Look over here at me workin' 4 Willie

If it makes ya feel good, then that is cool . Believe me, some songs that I dig would make some people scratch their heads. :-0 Minneapolis Music Month in March on the

Yeah, I dug it and still do. The rapping part is what bothers me, Tony M., but when Prince comes in with a mean rap, that's kind of cool.
Not that I ever really though Prince rapping was great, I mean he can do it pretty good, but it never felt for me like it was a Prince thing. Anyway, I also like that freaky sped up Prince voice that repeats in the background on the '1 and'.

It's a fun song, in my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. Why dos every Prince song need to be earth shattering with revelations and political/religious comments? It's no Housequake, for sure, but it's not any worse than most stuff on radio today.

At the same time, why is it usually assumed that some may not dig a Prince song because of its lack of serious or political/religious content? I have a feeling it's rarely the case with most people. I'd bet most love certain non-issue/party type Prince songs that are usually looked down upon by a lot of the intelligentsia here. It's not about making musical statements all the time. Altho, Jughead has commentary that I appreciate too: Where'd this unwritten law come from anyway? That years after the contract U should still be gettin' paid? Boy, I'd go broke and hit the skids Before I take care of a rich sucker's kids ... ***PEACE, HARMONY, AND FUN***

We all have things we don't care for, but please don't be a hater. And give Tony M a break, he did what he did for the time that he did it and moved on, So can we just move on too. Please open your mind, I remember Prince used to say never rap on your record, but then he learned to appreciate some of it. Peace. How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

I must admit, I did have to refer to the lyrics inside the album cover to find out what the fuck he was going on about. Anyone know?

and other people's hatred of the song can make YOU hate it, I know it did for me, but then I had to look back and remember how much I used to LOVE jughead (still do, I dont give a damn what NO ONE says). If the song makes u get up and dance, fuck what other people say. ***************************************************

You've got guts, Anji. I very much respect anyone willing to speak their mind even in the face of almost certain wrath.
If I hadn't heard this track yet and had only read what has been written about it on the Internet over the past decade I'd surely be expecting to hear some porno-quality track. While it's a million miles away from Prince's finest work, it's not the horrific track it’s made out to be. To me it's nothing more than a fun track that sounded a lot like what was happening on the radio at the time; and to some extent, what’s still happening on the radio. Which means it’s one of Prince's weakest tracks and probably has little chance of being appreciated more as time goes on. I applaud you for not only being able to think outside of this bully, geek-like group mentality, but that you are willing to share your opinion in a public forum.

Let's face it, Prince makes a lot of music. Therefore, he will make some howlers. If u look at someone like Marvin Gaye, we can see someone who was consistently of a very high level and rarely made a song worse than quite good, whereas Prince can be erratic.
Prince at his worst is absolutely terrible, but thankfully he is not at his worst very often. Most of the time he's amazing. On Jughead he is at his worst. The song is very, very bad, and would in my book actually be ranked lower than nearly everything u will hear even on pop radio these days, with the exception of any Celine Dion tracks.

Jughead? you can't defend this. you just can't Oh, I'm not defending it really. After reading the posts in this thread I went back to listen to it for the first time in years. While it's not something I could refrain from hitting the skip button on, I can't say it's the most annoying Prince song to me. It just mainly doesn't hold my attention, and it feels forced. But I can see how some would like it. I like some silly Prince songs, this just doesn't happen to be one of them. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
