Yeah, but his newspaper releases didnt get anywhere, and I havent a clue how on Gods green earth did both Musicology and 3121 get to #1!! I cant even remember the tracklisting for one thing on either of them, let alone lyrics or anything!! So, that alone shows how memorable they were to me!! You must have a short memory because millions of people went to Prince in concert in 2004 that is how he got to number 1. You are going to look like nut if Prince kicks ass this year. He has about 5 come backs already

Musicology only got to number 1 because EVERY concert goer was GIVEN A FREE COPY at every concert he did, as it was included in with the ticket price!! Totally different than actually going into a record store and actually BUYING a copy or even choosing to download it!! Concert goers had no choice in obtaining a copy as it was virtually shoved in their faces as they walked in or walked out of the arenas, or a copy was slapped on every seat!! Yet, normally record buying or downloading customers have a CHOICE whether to buy or download a CD or not!! Obviously everyone in 40+ countries CHOSE to buy Bowies new CD either in stores or on iTunes as opposed to having it shoved down their throats in desperation of getting sales!!!

None of this has anything to do with the quality of the album - but don't let that distract you from your trolling.

As a Bowie fan, it kinda pisses me off to see all these sudden new self-called Bowie fans brainwashed by the current Bowie hype. I'm delighted to be able to listen to a new Bowie CD. Because I never thought it would happen again. I love him. He is an amazing artist. The Next Day is a solid CD. But quite frankly, it ain't no masterpiece. This massive overproduced sound applied to too many pop/rock tunes one after the other especially starting from If you can see me to Set the world on fire kinda waste it for me a bit. I honestly think I prefer Toys, Heathen or Reality.
Back to Prince... He is the only artist to me who jumps from one style to another on the same cd with such class and such ease. And I love the genius musician he is. The way he plays the bass, the keys, the guitar. The way he puts all the instruments in place in his productions. he is completely different kind of animal.
I certainly don't want Prince to create a big overproduced pop/rock sound like I hear too much on The Next Day even if I think it is a solid effort. [Edited 3/12/13 14:50pm]

Yeah...but two years later Prince had an album (3121) debut at number one with no concert promotion...so that says what??? (It says that your logic is flawed.) Once again, Prince has had twice the number of number one albums than Bowie in the past ten years. Dude, just accept that your original premise is flawed, enjoy the new Bowie album, and move on. Personally, I like Bowie. I especially like how Bowie embarrassed MTV VJ Mark Goodman in the early eighties about the lack of African American videos being played on MTV. So, I'm happy Bowie has a hit. But, that hit doesn't make Bowie who he is, and Prince no longer being on the charts doesn’t define him either. Thus, if you notice, very few people, if any, are slamming Bowie; they are slamming you for your bs logic.

We are too quick to judge!!! Bowie and Prince make art. Music that takes time to to grow. You can't just take one listen to a Prince or Bowie album and judge it. You need to give it time. My first impression of the Bowie album is it has some really nice goodie songs but ask me in a year from now where it stacks up against Hours, Heathens, Reality.
As far as influences. Known that Bowie listens to a lot of old school Prince.
For me I like what Prince is doing. Screwdriver, That Girl Thang..etc. the new songs are catchy. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Just throwing stuff at people that didn't ask for it and without further promotion is lazy.

I know how the singles charts are getting compiled. But album charts? That's what we were talking about. Please enlighten me with your wisdom.

You wanna talk sales figures, then fine - add up all the figures from the 10+ albums Prince has released in the last decade. Bowie fans have been waiting a decade as previously stated. It's hardly a big deal for them to drop a tenner on this album. The marketing has been solid, but TBH, when you're a music legend that hasn't dropped an album in a decade, it sells itself. It doesn't need to be good, it doesn't need to be unique, the fact that he's released an album when everybody thought he was basically retired is enough. ANY artist of Bowie's stature that disappeared for a decade, the exact same thing would happen.
So talking about sales figures etc is an irrelevant discussion.
You want to talk quality of the album - it's mediocre with a couple of standouts. You could cherry-pick the two best songs from every Prince album of the last decade and you'd have a collection twice as long as the Bowie album that blows it away.
So if you want Prince to do what Bowie has done - what's that then? You want him to disappear for a decade and then come back with a mediocre record that sells well? No thanks.
I'm a Bowie fan but let's be real here, the album is nothing other than mediocre, it's a 6/10 at the absolute most. There's at least 4 Prince albums of the last decade that I'd rank higher. Lotus/MPLS alone has more solid material than this Bowie album. |

come to think of it, what WAS the goal, actually? In 2007, I get it. In 2010 though? [Edited 3/12/13 19:22pm]

I think it all boils down to a matter of taste, at least from the reactions outside of the org. Which everyone is Bowie's biggest fan(yeah right) and positive. What are you outraged about today?
