Would Prince Still B Famous If His Name Wasn't Prince?

Just a thought that crossed my mind while I was listening to Bambi, from his self titled album. What if his name was John, or Bob? Would U look twice at the Prince Album if it was the Phillip Album?

The Artist Formerly Known As Horatio?

Hmm.....

(Nothing wrong with those names by the way smile )

From the vineyards of Lavaux back 2 the heart of Minnesota. U R was, and will 4ever B The Purple Yoda....

Side note: Album was whack. This and a few others were decent. One of the reasons I stopped buying cds.

"Stop being a BITCH and love yourself..." Words to live by/quote randomly.

His name definitely didn't hurt him.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

GIOShokadelica

He changed his name several times and he also used a bunch of other names (Alexander, Jamie, Joey, Victor, etc), including names intended for women (Camille), names with weird pronuntiation (Tafkap, tora tora) and even Symbols with no pronuntiation at all and he's still one of the greatests of all time

So I don't that the name matters.

Would you buy the album of an artist called Horatio Phillips? I say that If Horatio is a good singer and I can find at least a good guitar solo in his album, then of course I would buy that album, for Horatio's Sake!

I really do not care, what is the name of the artist.
though when I first heard the name "Prince" as a child, I thought it was a fairy tale character, not a real singer. lol

Real name doesn't matter.

Would you buy albums by David jones, Farrokh bulsara, Reginald dwight, Marshall mathers, Robert Zimmerman, yorgos panayiotou, sylvester Stewart, Annie Mae bullock.

Well, you might not actually buy the albums yourself but they've all done pretty well for themselves.

Lol. Brian was the first name that sprung to mind for me to.

Being called Prince definately bought him some column space back in the day. Plus he associated himself with royal colours & dressed regally so he played up to this image.

But seriously his talent would shine through whatever he was called. Although we were all tested with that squiggle nonsense!!

Bring back the fro P & release a double album BEFORE the tour.

Enough of this 3rdeyegirl twitter crap!!

It wouldn't matter. It was his voice that I heard on the radio that got me. I didn't know his name. I didn't know what he looked like. The voice did it. wink

JoeTyler

his name is not a problem (as Musicology/3121 proved)

it's the way he releases/distributes his new music which is the problem
