Soft and Wet?

I've been dying to find this out for years but I know it was co written by Prince and Chris Moon. My question is who exactly wrote what? Do we know for sure? I hate that it was co written by Moon (cuz I want to believe Prince made his 1st hit sad just doesn't mean as much to me because of moon).

Did Moon write all the lyrics or just give P an idea? Did P write the music? What all info do we have?

God, I know I'm gonna be disappointed...(yeah, I know Im weird) lol

Purple Music is my drug and I'm jonesin!!!!!

I may be wrong but I've always assumed that Prince wrote all the music and

Moon supplied some of the lyrics. If that is the case, then I have no problem with Moon's contribution.

It's the groove and other musical elements of the song that really capture me, not the lyrics.

Why would it bother you if Chris wrote more than the lyrics? Doesn't change the song, does it?

Exactly!

We know what Prince can do, AND I think its nice when he has other people writing lyrics or even playing instruments. I reckon if he had more help on some things, it would actually benefit him. smile

I'm not sure, but I think Chris Moon wrote the original lyrics and Prince did the music and did some rewriting the lyrics. My understanding of their working together was that Moon was a word man, but needed Prince for the music. Moon, then would be responsible for the lyrics in the unreleased version (the 1976 version, around 3:22, identified as #1 on Work It). They are very different--unfortunately, I can't make all of them out, and the DTT site only has the second unreleased version, which is almost the same as the released version. I might get it done sometime, but if someone else wants to do it, that would be cool.

I actually enjoy this recording--I know it's been described as "gimmick-y," but I like all this stuff he piles on it, and Prince uses his lower register in several parts for backing vocals, and that's pretty fun, too.

er

Chris came up with:
Angora fur
The Agean Sea
It's a soft and wet love you have for me
This may seem a bit far-fetched, but it actually makes sense. Fur=soft. Sea=wet. Soft & wet=pussy.
Chris Moon was looking for lyrics that were naughty but not dirty. Of course Prince took a different route a few years later when he wrote Dirty Mind. Chris was a little puzzled with that. omfg confuse disbelief

I think it was C. Moon who was responsible for "correcting" some lyrics. I think the bit about sighs used to be about inside thighs or something like that...it was more graphic, when of course the metaphors are sufficient to get the message accross. I mean you don't need both conventions (metaphor and explicit)...its too much. It's already got sugarcanes and lions tamed LOL, we get it! I think it was a fantastic collabo for a young Prince, and I bet he learned a lot from co-writing it!

The audience doesn't need things spelled out to the all the time lol (rule one of poem or song writing, assume intelligence of audience)

Ask the Digital Gardener.

Ooops.

Prince doesn't like dedicated fans.

I still feel disdain for that act. Closing it down.

bawl

Is Prince ever going to apologize and help the Digital Gardener to get it up and running again?

That would be majestical.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I think that Chris wrote most of the lyrics and Prince changed a few (most noticeably the opening line)

Chris also claimed to have had input on several other tracks off of For You.

Chris claimed that he helped write both "baby" and "My Love is Forever" All three songs were part of some of the early demos used to get Prince noticed.
