I read that the version Elvis did at the actual concert was way better.

I hope there's video of it.

I liked the vibe, but it seemed like Elvis didn't really know the words / missed some words / was looking at the music stand to read the words. He also sounded a little drunk....

Definitely a rehearsal, and it took a little while to settle in, but rather enjoyable once it got going.

I've never really thought this song was the cat's ass, though, so maybe I'm less inclined to hate...

I'm a (big) fan of Elvis Costello, and I love huge chunks of his enormous album output.

BUT, over the years he's shown several tendencie sto cover Prince, and MOST of them have been blocked by Prince. Wisely.

The few times a Prince cover of his gets out (live), it is horrendous and embarrassing, I don't know why he keeps trying. He's just not funky. Admit it.

Those, and his ABBA covers ... razz

That being said, Moonbeam Levels is not a funky song. It's better than I expected! wink

eye only saw the rehearsal version and elvis doing moonbeam levels was not that bad at all .. i just don't like the song .. good verses but the chorus is boring and a bit grating

eye also saw the sister cover and it was freaking horrible

eye enjoyed princess tho and chris rock wasn't horrible .. kinda funny

That's only the rehearsal folks, there is a clip of the actual performance, and I think it is quite well done. I hope Elvis records the song, along with Prince releasing his original version.

Elvis's performance of "Moonbeam Levels" at Carnegie Hall was a lot better than that rehersal video. So was Bilal's "Sister" - where he really let loose in the last minute or two - unlike at City Winery (which is probably a smaller venue). For me, those were two of the highlights of the night.

It's a great performance by a great man ! By the way, a truely great unreleased Prince track. Happy someone at least covers it.

His voice range isn't as high as Prince's, that's why this version is also played in a lower key, and sounds rather diferent. But it is well arranged, and I certainly love Wendy's guitar on it A LOT !

Another thing, these smartphone recordings always give such a shit quality, impossible to capture the whole

Performance of the night for me, after a shaky start he nailed the vocal. Anyone who could slag this off clearly knows jack shit about music. And probaby hasn't taken the time to watch the video in hd on a flatscreen.
