Be My Mirror Appreciation Such an amazing song. Such a sublime melody and moving lyrics. I
Surely if released as single this would have been a number one global smash.
Anyone one else gonna show mad love and give major league props to this rarely menioned out take.

Eh.
The I'll Do Anything songs seem sketchy to me - in one way that's good, in another way it just leaves one cold to them. At least for me. I think they needed a little longer in the oven.

I tend to think most of them are pretty decent. But this one just kind of lays there not going anywhere and not meaning much. This one and the Empty Room re-make. The rest of them should have been on The Vault.

I think "Be My Mirror" is a gorgeous little ballad, but my favorite song from that session is "Make Believe" (I think it's the "Funk Version" that really gets me). That's the one with him singing, "Hot PANTS!" over the beat, right? Fucking subLIME. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I have that. One of my favorites. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I like it.
Never saw the film (which is supposed to be dreadful anyway), but I read somewhere that this song is to accompany a father teaching his daughter to dance, showing the dance moves, and therefore 'be my mirror'. Is that correct?
I opened Matt Thorne's new book Prince the other day and happened to read the section on this song. It was a matter of extreme personal opinion presented as if it was fact. And then, apparently having some of the facts wrong too. I closed the book and decided not to buy it

The songs were never used in the film. He was supposed to do the entire soundtrack but it just wasn't coming together as pictured. Personally I think it would work now since musical movies(and tv shows) are hot but back then not so much. They were just cut out completely after test audiences reacted bafly.

He probably has no say in it since the scenes were already shot and part of the film at one point so the rights were already granted at that time.

I'm sure he does. But he already had his say when he wrote and recorded them for the film and they were in it. in 1992/1993. the film company probably still retains the rights to include them in the film since that's what they were commissioned for.

Or "Be My Mirror"--which is maybe not horrible, but isn't pleasant. Though the fact that the little girl sings the last (in Prince's version very high) "I can be that and more" is interesting.
I've never seen the movie, even though at the time I was hopeful based on James L. Brooks' previous work and Prince (of course). And it has Albert Brooks in it, who has rarely disappointed me--his version of "There Is Lonely" is interesting.
The Albert Brooks version of "I'll Do Anything" has a skip/error in it in the copy I have, around a minute or so in, right after "What good is a private eye?" Is that the case with all the circulating versions? [Edited 3/9/13 17:46pm]
