Different versions of Illusion, Coma, Pimp And Circumstance ? Sorry if im not on the ball on this one but I noticed something odd this morning when I decided to start playing Musicology.
Background: I use iTunes for my library and have iTunes in the Cloud and stream all my music to save on HD space. So at some point, I ripped the audio from my Musicology CD and then uploaded it to Apple where I now stream it.
Anywho, I started streaming Illusion, Coma, Pimp And Circumstance just now and noticed something different about it. Instrumentation seemed a tiny bit different to what I remembered and there was some rapper dude in the background interjectring and saying that 'this was the remix' and it has a full on rap where the scratch guitar solo was. Playing time for this version is 4:47.
I guess what happened is that when Apple matched the track it found this version instead but what the hell is this version and where does it come from?? (Stranger still, Musicology isn't available to buy on the UK iTunes store).
Again, don't flame me if this is old news!!
TT. All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

I've read about iTunes Match substituting live versions or radio edits before, so this isn't unprecedented, but I've never heard of an alternative version of this track. Any idea who the rapper is?

Is the rest of the song the same, or is it a completely different song? If so, it's just a mismatch.

Length is only 1 second longer than the standard version so effectively the same.
To my ears, the instrumentation seems a bit more minimal in the remix but otherwise the only difference is the rapping over the top.
A mis-match, yes, but that doesn't necessarily explain why the different version if it was never officially released. [Edited 3/4/13 8:36am] All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

Yeah, very strange that Apple would even have an unreleased version of the song!

What's more odd is that iTunes would match anything from this album, since it isn't for sale and never has been on iTunes AFAIK. But I do vaguely remember this coming up once before.

One more reason, if you use the cloud... keep. hard. copies. of. everything... There's no telling when you'll find your classics replaced with New Masters.
That said... Post it somewhere, let it make the rounds so we can all hear it. Just don't do it here, of course...

Very cool! But please, don't link to it here. I don't want you to get into trouble because of any suggestion I made.

OK. Uploaded the mystery track to somewhere on the web where you can look at lots of videos. I can't name it but there's a B in the name. Oh, and a T.
If you search by the track name you'll find it.
Searching for my handle might help if you struggle.
Let me know what you think.
TT.

Just done a bit of searching after finding a strange Amazon link. I don't think there's anything official about this version. I think it will come as much as a surprise to P as to us!

On another note, anyone else freaked out that your songs can be replaced in the cloud?
That's. Just. Wrong. Can't say I'm surprised, though...

It's an unofficial remix, and this has happened before with iTunes Match.
A random version of the song "Keep Your Head Up", which was from the posthumous Michael Jackson album "Michael" (but is in itself a fake song by Jason Malachi that MJ's estate tried to pass off as MJ, but that's another story) - appeared on iTunes Match, and it was simply the album version with some random fan singing on top of it. It was hilarious.

*shudder*
I forgot how truly horrible this song was, the "this is tha remixsh!" just made it 10 times worse, like a big sphincter-ripping turd followed by chilli-diarrhea.
*sobs* I need a palette cleanser after that evilness.
