Not true, you haven't read many of my comments. I have commented on Prince's behavior in the past. Prince isn't perfect, he is human. However, in this instance, this situation went to far. I have been into Prince since the 70's. I have seen alot, however, Kirk should have just let this one go. "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

Even as a guitar player, what Prince did doesn't even phase me.
He's been doing the same guitar toss for all of his career... The Epiphone clearly got halted in it's path by the guitar cord. Prince was throwing it to someone to catch... as always.
It was an accident.
The national press on this has been the worst I've ever seen on Prince... and people's comments are disgusting me.
NO-ONE is mentioning that he has always done this, and EVERYONE is saying that he "smashed" the guitar.
Meanwhile, not many are talking about how he ripped up that guitar before he threw it.
A "real" news piece on this would include several shots (and/or video clips) of Prince doing the same guitar toss... In fact, it could start with the famous Hohner long distance toss he did during the Syracuse Purple Rain concert, which I'm pretty sure millions have seen. "He's a musician's musician..."

Bashraka has been posting updates from Kirk's facebook page (amongst articles and other things).
When someone had a go at you for rolling your eyes at Kirk the other day, you had replied to one of bashraka's posts that simply had a quote from Kirk's fb page, nothing else. It was labelled as such too, btw.
So presumably bashraka is not Kirk, but you were still effectively rolling your eyes at what Kirk said. You claimed it was because you didn't know, which of course means that you didn't read the entire quote before replying, because then you would have seen Kirk's name at the end.

Damn straight!
Genesia, did you approve of Prince's Blacks? I loved the look, especially the long coat. "He's a musician's musician..."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The blacks were good. Because they all had different textures, they looked just fine without matching exactly.
His proportions were off, though. The longer coat would have looked better if his tee hadn't been mini-dress length. Wearing all that long stuff together just makes him look shorter - because his legs look stumpy.
That coat is divoon, though. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh, you're far too kind to me. I'm more than satiated... thanks.
I didn't think about the long/long = short equation, but the only improvement I could imagine would have been a headband or scarf/doo-rag. Black, of course, with appropriate texture.

Okay...the long coat and a doo-rag with the 'fro? That'd be the full Hendrix. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

that's true but it's also some truly incompetent journalism. saying the guitar was smashed is inaccurate and prince is actually someone who respects his instruments.
i think the media deliberately confuses journalism with scuttlebutt, because it sells and people are just drawn to the smell of scandal, even if it is manufactured [Edited 3/8/13 17:05pm]

Whell, i have a Fender Stratocaster, 1971, original. no one mess whit this beauty. even Prince. if you lend an axe like this you should get it back in the same condition as you gave in the fisrt place, i dont care if he has zillions of dollars to by me others guitars, i have a history whith this guitar . problaby Kirk has it to with the one Prince smashed. you should respect people and their belongs.

Exactly.
There have been instances where even Prince's techs have missed his guitar throws and they've hit the ground.
Bottomline is if you are going to take risks, do so with your own property. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

Amusing to see *crickets* on this scenario asked a few times already if the situation was reversed:
If Prince's telecaster guitar was borrowed by D'Angelo or Andre 3k & he "accidentally" smashed his prized possession, how many Prince loyalists would change their tune? Don't bet against on that one, that is a whooole different story. How many do you think would instantly go insane over an "accident"? Stay hypocritical, that's the law of nature in Prince world. [Edited 3/10/13 9:24am]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It would be a completely different story if the situation was reversed. Prince fans would be going ballistic if his original telecaster was smashed on "accident" I call bullshit on scolding Kirk Douglas & I call bullshit on Prince needing to use this guitar for his "act" He had plenty of guitars to select from. Maybe if he was poor & needed a guitar, but that isn't the case.

exactly. I can't believe people defend Prince on this (oh wait- I can ) . There was no one to catch it...CLEARLY. His lack of thinking or ability to pay for it is not the issue. It's the total lack of respect of someone else's property.

I wouldn't even get it repaired. You can always buy another guitar. Actually the guitar was vintage so it kinda wouln't have the same value and the guy wanted Prince to sign it but he wouldn't so that kinda adds injury to insult.
