Really.
He throws it towards the audience and high in the air just like he always does when he throws it to his guitar tech or a fan. It's quite likely that he didn't intend to break it and just underestimated the length of the cord. Watch it online and you should come to the same conclusion.

You may be right with what you've posted... but let's not give the false impression that the ebay prices for vintage instruments are usually anywhere near their real value (the "buy-it-now" prices are often just plain silly).

Well, we do not if that's a fact either. That was also just a short post by him on the Internet and Prince might have actually apologized a little bit later. People don't always give honest accounts of what exactly happened and it seems like Kirk wanted to make Prince look a bit better.
You're right that we should move on though. I suppose that it's just interesting for us fans to understand what happened and whether or not Prince is really such an asshole that it initially seemed to be the case. I don't think he is that, but I'm quite entertained by the thought that he's used wireless systems so long that doesn't even really remember the limitations plugging in a cord to a guitar has.

You stans are so full of shit.
If someone smashed Prince's guitar, you'd be yelling and screaming for justice.
But if's okay if Prince does it to someone else's property.
Kirk values his guitar the same as Prince does his. If Kirk smashed one of Prince's guitars you asskissers would be ready to throw Kirk UNDER OVER IN the bus!

I'm sure he said: "Lawd!" as it hit the ground... No justice, No peace

Hold on a second... This Captain Kirk guy goes on and on about what he teaches his kids, right?
Now, Captain Kirk, here is something my parents have tought me: if someone makes a mistake and apologizes to you, then you should somehow make clear if you are willing to accept that person's apology or not. If you don't show any indication that you are NOT willing to accept the apology, then it is really bad behaviour to go on and on and on about the incident in question - in this particular case, even in public!
Why can't he just stop to write about it when he has already discussed the matter with Prince, and Prince has apologized for what has happened (apparently, without being forced by anyone to do so)?

y'know? that guy^ took his chances catching the guitar and all. forgive me but i would duck and run if i saw a guitar flying at me!!!! i suppose all superstars have to contend with how gossip columnists like BJCJ need to sell their otherwise dull copy by twisting the facts around. They'll do that in a few days.

I'm pretty sure Kirk is under contract.
Prince probably doesn't care that much in the end.

OKay, call me a conspiracy theorist, but indulge me...
1) Prince is a perfectionist and this perfromance would have been rehearsed to death as it is a big deal for 2013. Does it make any sense at all that Prince would just borrow some other dude's guitar at the last moment? He has a shortage of guitars? He wanted to "wing it" on the national stage with how it would sound?
2) The guitar matched his shirt perfectly. Coinkadink?
3) Anyone who wants to create a buzz and help a video go viral knows you need controversey.
4) Nothing Prince does on stage is spontaneous. The tossing of the guitar was planned from the get go. As were the instruction to not turn off the feedback.
I think there is a high probability the entire thing was staged. And it worked, becuase here we all are talking about it.

When did Kirk say he signed it?? did he give another update on facebook saying Prince signed??
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, kirk said he asked P to sign it again, but P said no and that he hasn't signed autographs since the 70s (which isn't true). "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Litchfield...
Man beaten by Prince fans after catching guitarThursday, February 24, 2011
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A man who attended the Prince concert at Oracle Arena in Oakland Wednesday night says he was beaten by other concert goers after he caught a guitar the singer threw into the crowd.
The two front row tickets to last night's Prince concert cost Perry Litchfield $750 each. They seemed worth every penny when the pop legend made eye contact with Litchfield and tossed his custom guitar right at him. "I don't remember anything other than it leaving his hands and entering mine; it was like in slow motion," Litchfield said.
After that, Litchfield says it was all a blur. He says the crowd mobbed him and he has the scratches on his knuckles and back to prove it.
When security pulled him out, Litchfield still had the guitar, but not for long. A stage hand demanded he give it back
"I kind of said, 'What do you mean?' and he grabbed it and said, 'It's just part of the show,'" Litchfield said.
In exchange for the guitar, the stage hand gave Litchfield a guitar pick.
Litchfield is laughing now, but he wants that guitar back.
"To this day I don't understand why I don't have the guitar," Litchfield said. "You throw something into the crowd, it's customary that the people who get it, get."
So was it really Litchfield's guitar to keep? It really depends on if the guitar can be considered "abandoned property" and what Prince's intent was when he tossed it into the crowd.
A spokesperson for Prince did not return ABC7's call for comment.

Eye've been at so many shows where Prince just walked up 2 us & handed & christened us with his guitar....We knew it wasn't ours to keep. One dude just started licking it . Another woman snatched it from us & scolded us like we we're going to take & keep it 4 ourselves
Anybody that follows should know its all apart of the act.....GIVE IT BACK BOO.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
