Prince screws "Captain" Kirk Douglas

Kirk (guitarist of the Roots) is not happy after letting Prince borrow his guitar for the Bambi performance on Jimmy Fallon.

I see a prupel lawsuit coming up...

What happened that this guitar had to suffer?

Is mr Prince also incapable of taking care of other peoples' stuff?

Does that add to the value if Prince broke your guitar? I guess he could frame it now, or maybe it might play still. Prince should give up the guitar he played Screwdriver on for Kirk. But it was a pretty damn good performance.

Prince borrows your guitar, shreds the hell out of it on TV throws it in the air in true rock god fashion. Priceless! If it was mine it would be my prize possession. I wouldn't even get it repaired. You can always buy another guitar.

Maybe Carlos Santana should do the same with Prince´s Hohner one day. lol

Prince would love that I'm sure. P thows his own guitars in the air so having one of his heros do it wouldn't bother him.

Prince throws his own guitar in the air, but one of his crew members catches his guitar.

Yes I guess you're correct there. I'd still be honoured if I was the owner of that guitar though.

Prince is a fucking asshole for doing that! I was just going to make a thread about this but I saw there already was one. What a dickhead!!! I actually can't believe he did that. I really didn't think he would have been the type to do something like that.

Totally agree. I don't understand why Prince has to borrow a guitar at all. He had his Vox and another guitar in the back of him to use. Maybe it's an inside joke between Prince and The Roots, and Prince wanted to keep it rock n roll, but the way Kirk looked when the camera cut to the Roots after Prince walked off stage, he looked like he wanted to find Prince's hotel room number and go Charlie Murphy on Prince's legs.

It was still an asshole thing to do. But like Prince said to Tavis in 2009, he can be a mean person.

He plays 2 songs and wants to smash up a guitar on the 2nd song so he decides to use his own guitar 1st and then borrow someone else's instrument for the 2nd song. That's nasty.

Lets see...have you ever seen Prince borrow a guitar on a live show?

NO

Was it planned?
YES

Does Prince do these type of things to get people talking about the performance?

YES

Are the people acting all upset about it just clueless?

YES

While you have every right to be a delusional sycophant, if it had been planned, we wouldn't have seen the owner's Twitter post. Or, it would have been along the lines of "Prince busted my gear. Wicked performance."

It was a dick move on Prince's part.

1st world problems.

a - either buy yourself another guitar

b - fix the one you have

c - make Prince buy you a replacement or pay for the repair

bored

Added - his own crew is telling him to not have it fixed.

I can see what happened...doesn't prince play wireless guitars? This one was wired. He threw it with enough force that it would have made it to a stagehand, but the wires killed the throw. Not intentional, but a moment of forgetfulness.

Carlos boozer found out that u don't lend anything to prince. Someone once compared it to having a mentally challenged kid spill juice on ure carpet. How can u b mad at him? U knew the possible consequences, but still poured him the cup.

Rock on prince!!!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Are you serious?

Didn't you see enough unplanned shit to believe that mr Prince's control freak show is as well oiled as was somone else's back in the day?

I do hope that mr Prince immediately forked over some dough.

And I deduce from the pics posted that the damage was not yet compensated or was prearranged or whatever.

I guess this means the ORG ethics committee will contact the ORG legal team and they will confer with the ORG accountants on suitable compensation for William Shatner's guitar.

All these people saying that Kirk should be honoured, or that he can afford to replace it, or that he already owns heaps of guitars, or that no doubt Prince would pay for the repairs, etc...

None of it changes the fact that he smashed another musician's instrument.

Maybe that one had sentimental value. Maybe that's not how Kirk treats his guitars.

I realise it might have been setup (although, as others have said, from the look on his face and the subsequent twitter postings, I'm not convinced), but if not, then it was downright disrespectful.

Prince doesn't get to decide whether it's a big deal or not if he smashes it - it's not his guitar.

falloff Ok, that's funny.

And yes, of course, ultimately it's between Prince and Kirk.

I'm just surprised to see how many people (who aren't necessarily allowing for the possibility of it being set up) seem to be in support of what I feel was a mean and disrepectful thing to do.

I don't know why people are upset with Prince?

He threw the guitar like he always does. Mariah Carey was supposed to catch it. You should be mad at her lazy ass. He threw it right to her.
