prince.org in http://3rdeyegirl.com/ meta name I did not read nothing about this. This is the meta name in http://3rdeyegirl.com/ site:
<meta name="keywords" content="Screwdriver, Prince, 3rd Eye Girl, third eye girl, Video, mp3, mov, mp4, Live Out Loud, Breakfast can wait, Boyfriend demo, Prince Boyfriend, prince music, live music, where is prince, prince video, 3rd eye girl video, drfunkenberry, prince.org" />
Delete if someone post this before.

You can put some word hidden in html code for google search. 3rdeyegirl put prince.org in.

that's actually interesting to think Prince fears/respects/acknowledges the org enough to put it in his website as a search key word.

I'm going out on a limb here, but my guess is that Prince didn't code the site himself.

Smart thing to do. He recognizes the Org has juice. If anyone is searching for the org, the 3rdEye website will come up in search results. [Edited 2/27/13 14:39pm]

Only it doesn't. Because Google adds very little weight to meta keywords now for exactly this reason; ie. people manipulating them to get into specific, if inaccurate, search results.
Clearly this has nothing to do with fear, respect or acknowledgement, beyond the simple fact that Prince.org has the biggest concentration of Prince fans than any other site on the 'net.
But the 3EG site would literally have to mention the org on the page these days for that to have any real impact on a specific "prince.org" search, which it of course never will.
And btw, who on earth would ever search for Prince.org? Here's a thought - it's a URL, try just typing it in at the top of the browser
I'm not having a go at them doing it, it's makes sense to put it in just in case, but it's unlikely to make any difference.
What they really SHOULD be doing (and I understand Prince wants to be all mysterious and I get that) is at least putting something about Prince on the website itself. Meta tags won't do it anymore. Actual text on the page that mentions Prince, the NPG, new music, etc... is what will get 3EG starting to appear in searches.
Right now, the only way they will be getting new traffic to the site is from secondary sites like this one that turn up in search results and then direct searchers onto 3rdeyegirl.com
Not exactly ideal.
But who knows? Maybe that's all part of the plan

^^^ Google started weighting meta tags for articles and posts that appear in its news search last fall...according to Google: http://googlenewsblog.blogspot.ca/2012/09/a-newly-hatched-way-to-tag-your-news.html
However, maybe they don't use it for other sites, not sure. I'd still use it just in case.
I agree with the advice about adding something about Prince on the site. Last time I bought a song I saw no mention of Prince whatsoever. They should definitely add his names to the song descriptions, have a blog of Prince news. And photos, and a notation of it being an official Prince site, and him in copyright statement note at bottom of page...and.

prince.org and dr dingleberry are in there, but no "NPG"? No "Purple Rain"? no "Raspberry Beret" or "Kiss" or ... you get what I'm saying. If they're going to have random, popular Prince-related tags in there, why not some more relevant ones?

Did the org give permission?
I don't think so.

My Wife! I've tried telling her that she can just type it in the other box and save time but no. .
Doesn't matter since the latest safari update though as search and url are one combined box, which was weird at first but works really well.
As for the org being in the meta data, I just googled prince.org and by the 5th page of results hadn't seen 3rdeye so gave up. RIP

Reminds me of the old days when a ton of 'invisible' text at the bottom of the page stuffed with keywords was the thing to do. Then it was meta-tags, now it's back to text eh!

I doubt Prince has anything to do with 3EG's metanames: this is the webmaster's job. Megastars don't bother about their site's metanames more than they bother about cleaning their WC after use: they pay people for these things

Meta tags aren't going to cut the search mustard. In order for Google to crawl a site there needs to be copy/content to crawl. I never would have known about the site if not for .org. Does P want to sell his songs to anyone but us????
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
hehehe, yep, it seems to have gone full circle
Although, of course, Google is more savvy now, so a block of invisible text shouldn't really work either. Their bots and crawlers seem to know and pick up genuine content now rather than just a bunch of keywords.

The goal of meta tags isn't to get Google to crawl a site or cut the mustard. It's to give information to robots and assist in ranking. And since Google uses 200 things for ranking, obviously meta tags isn't king but is a part of it for many sites.
The link to the Google blog that I posted above clearly suggests they use tags for some sites and there are some SEO professionals and industry sites who suggest it, although there are diverse opinions on whether it helps or should be used.
SEO Industry Watch:"Google Wants You To Use ...Ept. 2012)
Well, who is to say if you have meta tags you don't have genuine content? They aren't mutally exclusive. Tags aren't a substitute for content for when it comes to attracting traffic. Some just assume it's a help. If it makes no difference in the end, all you've lost is a little time. Old habits die hard. [Edited 2/28/13 7:01am]

Also, this is a good time to remind Prince and the world that I own the copyrights to "&E" and "&e".

Just look at the source! How hard can it be?
Was it explained as an activity like that? Some of us do enjoy this stuff.
Bots crawl without mustard too. Did you ever check the logs of your website? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I'm joking.
I don't look at source codes. I wouldn't know where to begin if I wanted to, which I don't.
I'm joking.
Bottoms crawling, with or without mustard isn't something that appeals to me. Makes my arse itch just thinking about it. I never check the logs on my website. I don't have a website.

3rd Eye Girl is a terrible site as far as Google is concerned. It's got hardly any content. The page titles give no clue to what the site is actually about.
It might get some Google love from inbound links which have 'prince' in the anchor text but funny that whoever built it actually went to the trouble of adding meta tags (which carry virtually no weight anymore) but didn't bother to do some of the basic things that would help it in search rankings.
As others have said I guess they are just hoping that people will find it via Word Of Mouth rather than somebody searching for 'new prince single' or whatever.

Is the site actually about something? I mean: it's just a minimal storefront to sell computer files. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Of course he does. He also sews t-shirts in between songs that's why Shelby gets so much stage time. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
