The "Nude" tour at the time was intended as a "hits" show that could generate him a decent amount of money when he apparently needed it. So, I suppose, not going for a setlist that focuses on the latest album was a financial choice for him at the time.
Now that I checked it out it seems the tour actually started even before the album was released and ended during what would have been the "promotial period" of the album. A bit odd, if you ask me.
Never been a fan of the "New Power Generation" song. Always thought it sounded like something from a Pepsi commercial.
Prince did a lot of that from 1991-2007 touring before the album being released
Diamonds and Pearls tour started in April 92, Act I in March 93, and Emancipation in January 97. Those were after the albums were released.
The Nude Tour wasn't a tour to support Graffiti Bridge the album, or film for that matter. The tour was almost over by the time it came out. TRUE BLUE |

Yeah, I was wondering about that. What tours from the 1990s would be comparable to what he did with the Nude tour in the promotional sense?
He was back having more songs from the current album with D&P, Symbol, Come and TGE (of course, all the fighting with WB made the touring a bit pointless for "supporting" TGE as the album didn't come out until later). After that it got patchier, but his song catalog had already grown considerably by that point. Ticket buyers started demanding the old classics more and more. |

It's such a clever line, though!
I like "Pardon me for breathing, can we borrow some of your air?" You don't usually get that kind of sarcasm in r&b.
The verses to this song are great because of the way the words and the melody flow together. Like I said before, the bass line is classic too. The whole recording has got great energy.
I can understand why P doesn't perform it though. Prince and the NPG were already in their 30s when they did this and weren't doing anything really "new" by that point so the theme was always a bit odd. It would be even more of a stretch now. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Maybe he can tie in "Lay down your funky weapon" to all the political hoopla of the gun Control debate. Then he can do whats in the "LoveSign" video and offer free Prince & the NPG tickets for every gun you turn in. Yeah, thats it. He can play "N.P.G." followed by "Annie Christian" then "Love Sign" performing all the songs signing into the Gun Mic. Sorry, It's just my imagination.

I think it was played on that odd rehearsal we got where Levi and Rosie sing everything. Many tracks that were never played live, or played in a totally different way, are featured on it, it's like a reahearsal for a tour that never happened, just like that odd Madhouse rehearsal with the Hornheads.
Does Princevault list circulating rehearsals btw??? |

Thats totally correct. When I was working for a large retail record store chain as a District Manager I was very close to a high up Warner Bros. rep that was based outside of Detroit, who would give me any and all Prince information( and also some great promo items and advance copies of things) thru 1990-1995. He was also a major Prince fan. I would give him things like Small Club and the outtakes and I had a great repoire with him. On June 3rd 1991, he attended a private show( for high up Warner Bros. employees) on June 3rd 1991 at the Warners Bros. lot. He always asked me if I had that show or if it was in circulation. He did tell me that he performed "Elephants and Flowers" and "Daddy Pop" but wasn't familiar with the new D & P material and couldn't remember what the setlist was. He also attended another private show later that night at The China Club in Hollywood. For that setlist he did play "Daddy Pop" and "Elephants and Flowers" which matches to what he told me about the Warners Bros Lot show. It seems the majority of the songs that were perfomed on that Skin Tight Rehearsal ( Late May 1991 in Los Angeles) where performed during the 2 shows on June 3rd 1991. If "NPG" was played, it would of been during the private WB show which was outside during the day. I really don't see that rehearsal as being for the Diamonds and Pearls tour (since he didn't start rehearsing for that tour properly until January 1992 with the tour starting in April of 1992) but more for the showcase at Warner Bros and the 2 shows from 6/3/1991(showcase at Warner Bros and the China Club show). All this talk makes me want to pull out the "Skin Tight" rehearsal which I haven't heard in over 17 years. Too bad i have it in storage because now I'm really curious to hear the arrangement of "NPG" live.
Peace
