to be or not to be - a new album?

Hey, I've been away for a while and was wondering, although Prince is putting out a few songs now to buy online, does anyone think that they won't be on an album?, i.e. he won't be releasing an album.

Here's hoping that he still puts together a disc containing all of the songs. I'm old fashioned, give me an album I can hold in my hands wink

There's no point in wondering, though of course we all do.

If Prince has an album coming out, we'll know within a month of its release, two tops. His own stated intentions up to roughly the same amount of time beforehand being a completely unreliable source.

he'll probably wait until he's sold us about 20 tracks on the 3rdeyegirl website

and then he'll go ahead and put 14 of them on a disc that will be released to

regular retail globally.

which is when the shitstorm of indignation will hit and the website wil fold lol

I'll be waiting for that album.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't enjoy a bunch of random songs rattling around in my iTunes. An album is more than the sum of its parts - it's a portrait of a year. Like, if somebody says '1986' to you, do you get a picture in your head? I do... and it's the Parade album cover (well, that and a-ha's Scoundrel Days, the Aliens movie poster, and some personal stuff). I wouldn't like the term '2013' to conjure up images of a bunch of random Screwdrivers and 3rdEye-whatsits...

If that's how it goes down, the bolded portion of your post is my choice for album title. Let's see if we can get Prince to use it. Fans kind of named C-Note. At least, fans were calling the 5 tracks that almost as soon as they were first available in 2003, but they didn't get an official title until they were sold as a collection by the Musicology store in 2004. So, if Prince does wind up using the same tracks as he's selling us piecemeal now, I think he should recognize that fact by naming the album after the probable fan reaction. And if he doesn't want to use that exact language, I would accept milder variations, such as

Poopshower of Slight Annoyance.

But I think the original would be best.

I think this is definitely the first time that three people on the org have agreed with something I have said. lol Thanks for the support, guys!

I can recognize that we're probably the music-buying equivalent of a guy who wants his hamburger served to him by a girl on roller skates, but I think it's still important to show support for conventional albums in this single-crazed age. I'm sure it's very exciting for Prince to get things out immediately, and I'm certainly not saying he shouldn't, but it would be nice if he'd continue to offer complete (even if virtual) albums.

Wouldn't be hard to do both, either: like how iTunes has that "complete this album for $x.xx" feature. And as far as physical discs go, just be upfront and announce that there's gonna be one. Then if you're Prince and you change your mind, all the cd-holdouts can spring for the virtual album if they choose...
