Nothing Compares 2 U original version I read on PrinceVault that Prince has a recorded studio version of his own of Nothing Compares 2 U laying around in the vault somewhere. Is this something that circulates and that anybody has ever heard or is it one of the yet unheard hidden tracks? And do U in any case think that Prince will ever release his own STUDIO version of it??
BTW, I found it strange that there wasn´t listed any studio version of Purple Rain on PrinceVault but I find it hard to imagine that he never recorded a studio version of this track. Does anyone know about this 4 sure??

Not sure about Purple Rain...doesn't surprise me that I imagine him and the Revolution just constantly rehearsed it live and used the First Ave version for the end product... As for nothing compares 2u, the original Prince vocal has never been released or leaked, can't imagine him releasing it either...think the fact that he officially released a live recording in 92/93 proves that he has been done with the original version since he recorded it...you never know though(!)

Since he created a lot of this music with the Revolution like (outtake) Felline and the studio rehearsal of Screams of Passion, Desire and a few others, I would assume that before he pulled the Family in on it he worked it out with his band
There is the PR era sounding Nothing Compares 2 U with Susannah & St Paul on vocals, I need to listen again because I believe you hear Prince as well
The songs feel reminds me of Another Lonely Christmas

RE: Purple Rain. I believe there is a studio version because in the film you can see/hear Prince and W&L play just the Drum machine beat to PR from a tape. "there something else...our music" "can't u just leave it alone?"

The Prince guide vocal track was erased & directly recorded over with St. Paul's vocal on the master, so it's gone forever.. hardly "laying around in the vault somewhere".. But if you had bothered to do any research before posting (or searched before you posted on the Prince.org search on the top right of your screen) you would have found that out already.

Although, it would be very easy for Prince to re-record his vocals over the original instrumentation.
PS those vault geezers don't know everything and I would bet my bottom dollar Prince has a studio version with his vocals of NC2U in the vault, maybe not the family version but A version recorded since Sinead's version went global.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Thank u for your reply, the information is much appreciated. NO NEED for the sarchastic comments towards the end, NOT appreciated. This is still a discussion forum and many subjects will probably be discussed several times.
As for the Prince version it says nowhere on the Vault page that Prince erased his own version. I´m not saying you´re not right about it, but just find it strange they don´t mention it in a comment. And BTW, personally I think it´s funny if he had erased his own version completely. Doesn´t it make more sense if he just used the same recorded track for the St. Paul vocals but still kept his own version?

Very surprising coming from Prince. I've done a lot of research in my 20+ years being a fan but i'd never heard about this A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
