lol You think Prince's performance sucked? It rocked! Now, that lame-ass youtube video did indeed suck. Hilarious. lol

I think if Kirk really is pissed then Prince needs to make it up to him. It would be a dick move not to. But, I have no idea how much of this drama is real and how much is just to get people talking so, I'm not gonna worry about it one way or another. What I do know is that it was cool to watch, expecting it to be caught as usual but instead seeing it crash to the stage, and then Fallon and the rest reacting to the act and to the sustained sound that resulted from it. Priceless.

Getting all butt-hurt mad at Prince on Kirk's behalf is just silly, no?

cool

Yeah destroying the roots guy guitar was a dick move & not the first time he's done that (DNA Lounge, SF) but most of this guys criticism of prince is laughable. He attacks his lack of great music since the 80's in other posts then clamors for more vault material. Attacking his guitar tones? Prince is more creative with his pedals then anyone on the planet. Sorry Trevor I don't think i need to criticize your work, it speaks for itself.

performance was alright

it's funny hearing him pronounce "you're my screw" with his johnny rottenish voice

i knew that guitar was vintage... epiphone have done a cheap reissue but i knew this one would be an older (coveted) piece of value

ANYONE breaks one of my guitars and i'm not going to be a happy man

i love prince... but not like i love my guitars

it was a dick move

Anyone else catch Damaris Lewis in the crowd at the end of the show when Fallon ran up into the crowd?

I wouldn't know Damaris Lewis if he or she was standing in front of me. Who is Damaris Lewis and why am I supposed to care?

You're not. She's a Black Sports Illustrated model that has toured with Prince as a background dancer (and runway model). wink

Some professional musicians I Facebook with are STILL raving about that performance. One of the guys is ranked as one of the top ten roots rock guitar players of all time - he's no slouch.

He was blown away.

"'Screwdriver' is an instant classic" is the phrase being thrown around most often.

They are just being polite in humoring you, as their "Prince" fan friend. They would say the same thing if you were wetting your pants over a Bruno Mars or Lady Gaga performance. It's politeness.

That would make them horrible friends. I want friends who are honest, even if they hate something I love, or vice versa.

I have good friends, but these are Facebook friends - not real-life friends. They didn't know I was a Prince fan, and they weren't posting on my wall at all. I joined a conversation already started on another's wall.

But art is art. If it didn't trip your trigger, so be it. I have to tell you, though - some of the greatest rock guitarists around (both session and band members) are still raving about this performance.

I'm just teasing you a little Mr. Rodeo. We all know Prince is an incredible musician. I liked Bambi. Screwdriver is one that you kinda have to be predisposed on liking I think. So no, no tripping trigger on my part for it. That's ok though.

Some mice in the shed that I facefart on are raving about the performance too. One of those mice plays a mean axe when he's not eating cheese. He's been rated an expert so I'll go with whatever he says (When I learn to speak mousey). He's a bit of a slouch. I dropped my guts nearby and he was blown away.

"Screwdriver is a bag o shite" was the phrase most bandied about but what does he know? He's just a plain ol mouse. I'll try to respect his opinion, for what it's worth.

Edit: Jimi Hendrix. Now stop being silly bout this tosh.

As for the band, I think they are great, and I have to give props to someone of Prince's staure to nurture young musicians and give them this rare never in a lifetime opportunity. I'm sure they are having a blast. So for that I give Prince double props, that's what life is about, giving back and hopefully making people happy.

People on this board aren't happy unless they are kicking some shit up. Mariah clearly CLEARLY was honered to be on the same show with Prince and showed him much love and respect.

She simply did not do what you describe PERIOD

Well, you have to remember that even though Mariah Carey is one of the biggest stars in the music business, she is on the tail end of her career, and she was appearing on the show as a reality TV personality and not the uber diva she once was. In fact, Jimmy asked her if she had ever recorded anything with Prince, and she said that she had not, though she would love to do so. Now as much as I love both Mariah and Prince, if she ever tried to work with him with that diva attitude she has, he'd say, "Bitch, please," and laugh her out of the room.

What about "The Beautiful Ones"? Mariah recorded a version of that with Prince singing in the background, so I would guess that she's recorded with him. Her version is okay, but Prince version is best by far.

Well I, for one, thought it was a great. It's hardly the best song he's ever written but I believed the performance, mistakes and all. Hey, all good rock'n'roll has mistakes.

As for breaking the guitar, well, you lend a guitar to prince you suffer the consequences. We all know he has no idea of the value of anything.

I liked the show, the performance was good

the afro wasn't sexy, the 3rd Eye girl shirts were too much,

having the image on the drums was good, they all should have

had on ruffled shirts underneath their outfits instead

Here's my view.

SCREWDRIVER - He rocked the shit out of a cheesy, infantile, bad song.

BAMBI - He rocked the shit out of an old classic.

He looked cool and reminisced the older controversial looks.

The ending was ol' skool cool.

Prince still has style. He's always changed up his hairstyles over the years, and Prince is from the old skool era, the coolest, badest era there is. Nothing stays the same, things change, and like it or not, we either change with it or be left behind.
