SM groove (This is how we dooz it)

Just popped up on shuffle and I haven't heard it in years. I was surprised to hear him sing "this is how we dooz it". This was 2001? I had never heard the vernacular until last year. Was it being used way back then or before then? I'm

Cool. Not sure how that helps but I get bored sometimes too.

I guess I'm asking perhaps very naievely if Prince started this meme or if he was just drawing from slang already in use.

i was disappointed that the released version didn't sound as echo laden

and 'weird' as the snippet that he posted online a few years before sad

still, a cool song.

totes agree. the earlier version was better. similar to Vavoom with the female moaning noises and interference was better than the relesaed version.

why Prince? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY....

indeed. two examples of how he tampers with songs right up until he releases them.

in both these cases the end result was still the same song, yet a dulled down, flatter

version.

i would have much prefered he release the 'original' versions.

since the internet age he has done this quite a lot- even the tracks Props n Pounds and Sex Me Sex, Me Not have slightly different incarnations - annoying really. I'm sure there are loads more.

Yes i totally agree - it sounded raw and fresh while the released version sounded too over produced and lifeless.

I also remember a sample of a song called Funk Radio which sounded cool....does anyone know what happened to that song?!

If your radio is not on the funk, your radio ain't on...

To reply to the OP: No, Prince did not come up with the phrase "This is how we do's it" (or however you choose to spell it).

I am by no means aware of the latest street lingo but even I had heard that term for years, perhaps decades, prior to when that song was released.

I do dig that song quite a bit though .... although I definitely agree that the sample that we were teased with sounded more interesting than the released version.

Thanks. I was sure that would be the case but had only starting hearing it recently. We're pretty behind here in New Zealand. Still, I like living here. It's really "groovy" cool

Ah, you're in New Zealand, huh? Very cool .. that does make sense then that you had just recently heard that term. I hope I didn't come across as a dick in my response - sometimes I'm a bit blunt.

And by the way, I absolutely LOOOOOOVE Flight of the Conchords!

Lol, No, not at all. I appreciated that you addressed my question as opposed to just laughing at my ignorance and lamenting in the superiority that said ignorance afforded you like some are prone to do around here.

There is a sub culture here that is heavily influenced by black American street culture for want of a better description but that's mainly the maori and pacific islander youth. Though of course most things filter through due to music and tv to everyone but as a white almost middle aged new zealander, I miss a lot of it. I'm still not entirely sure what a "shorty" is. Do you Fuck it or smoke it?

Re, the concords. They are loved here but were around for years and not many people took notice but once they "made it" the U.S, everyone here suddenly got. Very proud and reall got on bored. If you like that style of awkward self deprecating humor (we're good at that as we are awkward and kinda hate ourselves) then please search out a new zealand movie called "boy". I think you'll really like it.

A boring, boring, borrrrrrriiiiing song... I'm glad those plastic years are over.

I remember everytime I heard a new song from the music club, just being blown away by how dull they were. I was thinking if this is really the dawn Prince is either crazy or fucking with us.

it's from '97.

would have been one of the better tracks on NPS if it had made it to the album.
