And it's more than ironic considering that all we were hearing from the very same fans that Prince needs to take a more stripped-down approach to his music...

OK, you've read more reactions to said track than I have - I haven't read these duplicitous opinions from 'some fans'.

Who said they are "duplicitous"?...lol...There are more than a few, but it's not a majority...

I just find it more ironic than anything else...That this is coming from the very same folks who complain that Prince needed to get back to his "rawness"...

Agreed but I always have 2 put Prince into a special category. When u have done as much as he has, there really isn't any wiggle room 2 go anywhere else. Catch 22 so 2 speak.

Can I re-play your songs? That's my question on the new Prince material...

And my answer is: Yep...

U guys want him to drop some mind-altering shit (songwriting...musically)...I just want him to do the one thing he has been hot/cold on doing for some while now...

Just make some good fucking songs...

And these latest batch of tracks are just that...If he keeps this up, I'm good...

"Good songs" is a very subjective opinion. I enjoyed 20ten while others didn't. I just want prince to continue making music. Whether I like the output is on me. I don't have any expectations on what Prince should do or what he should sound like.

As an artist Prince must be allowed to create as he feels in the moment of life he is living. If that creates classics great but an artist can't create classics just because. It has to come out naturally.

Lol.............there are 1'000 of great songs that were not #1 hits.

So far nobody named one... Mint condition was only mentioned because they were a support act for Prince once... What I mean is the time of real classics is over... Who will remember 'todays' top 40 in 30 years? Or is it a matter of growing up in a certain period of time? I mean, I like the whole lo-fi thing that's going on, but I don't hear classic material... It's all disposable, if you get my drift...

Now u just talking silly................Mint has been around for 20 years.

It's human nature to think your opinion is the right one, and to think that if others dont' agree with you, there must be something wrong with them. Listen, I hate country music with a passion, does that mean the millions of people who love it are wrong? There is no wrong or right opinion. We can't help what sounds good to our ears or looks good to our eyes.

I was a huge Prince fan for many, many years. I don't like these new songs and I don't think he is marketing himself right at all. I don't particularly like "rock" Prince either. I don't want him to go back to being "nasty." I just want him to be who he is and quit trying so hard. He has nothing to prove. I don't like seeing an artists pandering to the masses. It makes a mockery of their talent.

Duplicitous in that they're betraying their own opinions according to you. Who are these "same folks" - these "some fans" who don't like this one song but have expressed their hunger for rawness and stripped down stuff?

Isn't Girl Thing trying less hard? It's an iddy biddy slip of a song.

Murph....reading all that was a bit of a drag wink LOL

I think people have been like this for years in terms of 'civil war' but it's not really a war it's more an 'uncivil debate', it's basically the 1978-1995/6 camp vs. the 1978-2013 camp.

I disagree with you on RnR Love Affair, think it was a good more mature effort and I personally prefer it to the rather immature Screwdriver, however i did like the Screwdriver remix and I disliked the RnR 7 remix to confuse things further!

Agree that this Girl Thing is like early/ original Prince although i did hear a strong resemblance to Kate Bush.... nice to hear a song that's not overly polished and souped up.

Yep....I've said there has always been a Civil War in the Prince fan camp...

The reason for this post was to point out MY puzzlement at Prince fans not digging probably the most stripped down, straight forward P songs we have gotten in like forever ("That Girl Thang")...

To me, it makes me wonder if something else is going on when it comes to some Prince fans...

Wait..you saying you dont know what it is...come on now. You know and I know whats going on.

Wait...so...now...I'm confused, and I'm not wearing loafers. Since I love most of Prince's output from 2000 to 2010 and I like "Screwdriver," "That Girl Thang," and "RnR Love Affair," where does that put me??? So, if people who have hated Prince's work from 2000 to 2010 like these new singles, please dear Gawd tell me that I'm not now in the camp with them...am I??? Okay, so that I won't be confused, can you people who have hated Prince's work for the past twelve years hate these new singles too so that I can have a more firm grip on reality? Y'all starting to cross the well-drawn and firmly etched lines that most of us have spent years digging. It's like integration all over again, but this time it's some people claiming to be purple who ain't really purple. Y'all haters stop trying to pass for purple; you're confusing my black and white notion of thangs!

Listen, I get it...As much as I dig "Screwdriver" (and I do...the shit is just flat out effortless and fun and a smart opening single if ever officially released to the world) I can't take anyone seriously when they say that has been the best recent song released thus far in the last few weeks...

I've read a lot of bitching and moaning on this site...And I have to say I'm surprised...No, I'm shocked...

This is about a man who is finally doing what we want him to do: Drop quality songs straight to the fans without the hype and bullshit...

These songs have been good folks...U want groundbreaking, Dream Factory era stuff? How about the man crawl before he walks?I want Prince to release songs with STRONG re-play value...

That's what the new songs have..."Breakfast...", "Screwdriver," "Boyfriend," "That Girlfriend Thang"...These songs have been effortless in terms of feel and groove...That's all I need from Prince these days...

But people calling this uninspired are full of shit...lol...I like the fact that Prince seems to be finding inspiration from the late 70's era Prince and early '80s Prince...And he's doing it in such a way that's not forced (FINALLY!!!!).....It's as if fans are living through some revisionist history...As if Prince's musical greatness started in 1983-86.....

This is the Prince I want to hear: straight-no-chaser Prince; straight ahead songwriting...A GOOD FUCKING SONG....I haven't heard the man this raw in a minute...

Certainly "Prince" fans can't hate on that...

Right..........?
