It's a quite beautiful melody, though it turns my mood melancholic because it makes me think of "Comeback", so I will not listen to it often

For me it is the same! Screwdriver was the best of the bunch, the rest is "so so" or "just a fun groove". There's nothing 2013 yet that makes me want to come back and back to hear it again. But it is only Februari, and I enjoy the fact that these tracks are thrown at us for now... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

For as long as I can remember, Orgers have been clamoring for unreleased tracks and demos/outtakes/remixes/rehearsals of any and all Prince songs.
Seems like he has listened and is giving us those -- but in advance of the actual album versions of those songs. And who's to say an "album version" ever materializes? I have like 3 different versions of Screwdriver (more if you include the videos) and a few different versions of RNRLA.
Also, who's to say that these aren't dusted-off Vault tracks? That Girl and Boyfriend could belong to any era . . .

For me the best is "Boyfriend", I am not addicted to Screwdriver, didn't even dl it, cause it doesn't move me, this reminds me of a "Beach Boys" track west coast thing.. Breakfast can wait: just sounds like the MPLSound's mood, as if it was taken fom a Bria's valente album; good, though not excellent Prince is a player, he's Gemini, always there where we don't expect him to be, then he surprises us as a flash when we are at odds of him.... I M O Don't expect something, you'll be amazed We make our own way to heaven everyday

Easy to assume Prince wrote it. Andy could have written it, since Prince's lyrics of late have been fairly mundane. Prince has lied in liner notes the same way he lied about Crystal Ball, Website after Website. This is the same guy who said he couldn't name other artists' music because he only listened to himself.
Hard to trust a liar. It makes it even more difficult to guess what songs Prince really wrote, and which ones he is lying about. SMH!

I think I must have a thing for the man's voice, because I kinda enjoy anything he's singing. He could sell a .wav of him singing in the shower and I would probably go "oh, wow, that voice" than probably have a short moment of mental sharpness and think "WTF?!?" before going "oh, but, that voice" again... So I guess I'm a bad judge here
That said, it may not be a Masterprince but that raw feeling is not bad to me. I find it a good quiet track to put on in the morning, when I'm just up the bed, sipping my veeeery hot coffee (and no, MY breakfast can't wait!)
I enjoy the fact that he's putting up all different songs. Makes me wonder what'll be next.... With a little fear, actually

I heard this song yesterday and couldn't decide what to say about. Today I'm still not sure.
I like it definitely. I liked the music, the raw feel, and certainly the fragile, vulnerable vocal delivery.
For some reason the lyrics are not pulling me in. Although from what I read they are beautiful. I've tried to focus on the lyrics but then I tune out half way through. I don't like that as I"m a lyrical person.
I do not like the title ... maybe if it were "thing" instead of "thang" I'd think the title matched the song's beauty. Distorted grammar is just ugly.
I don't know why folks are comparing this to the Truth and saying it's better than anythign on the Truth. Um, no.
Just let the song be what it is. There are several beautiful and precious songs on The Truth that are better than this one.

I like how we're assuming this came from the Allo sessions because its like acoustic, as if P never did acoustic before PP.
(Not saying its not impossible, but we're assuming a whole lot.)

hahaha I agree. Prince could release a blank track and some of these quacks would be posting how "genius it is" or that it's a "masterpiece" or how much we should "appreciate it." [Edited 2/19/13 14:54pm]

I like the acoustic guitar - reminds me of Guinnivere by Crosby Stills and Nash.

Others have echoed my sentiments: This is an intimate track that sounds like it was shared almost immediately after it was recorded. There is hiss in the silence as the last guitar note fades out, then you hear a click like an old-school tape-recorder shutting off. It's as if it is the '70s or '80s again and Prince has just handed us a cassette of him demoing his new song!

It's ok. I like the raw sound and the intimate feel...but the song itself is just eh...
Of all the new stuff Screwdriver is still my fave followed close by the RnR remix. Breakfast can wait is also really good.

I'm not a big fan of his acoustic songs but this one is pretty good and his voice is amazing. I have a feeling that he will continue 2 release songs as demos 4 purchase and then put the finished songs on an album later this year probably b4 summer Welcome 2 The Dawn

Much much better. After Breakfast Can Wait and ScrewDriver, sound-wise this is a big step up. Even as just a demo. Reminds me of something from the awesome The Truth album.

I've stated this for a while now. I think people are liking these tracks just because it's new Prince music. The melodies and hooks or even the simple passion or spark are sorely missing in almost all of these tracks, and a lot of folks here seem to go gaga over it just because it's something new from Prince or because they're hearing his voice on a record. They go into it wanting so desperately to love it that even IF they hate it upon first listen, they'll make themselves like it after a few spins, and they probably don't even know they're doing it.
After all, it's humanly impossible for a legend like Prince to be completely devoid of ideas, isn't it? Because if you thought so, you're being a hater or a "douche bag" (or both) and shouldn't be within 500 ft. of prince.org.

That person above dismissing broadly people for liking P's new stuff, it really ignores.....you know, REALITY.
Howard Stern ridicules Prince whenever he pops up as a topic, yet he dug "Screwdriver." Nobody paid him to do it, and right after that digging he went back to mocking Mr. P.
EW gave a good review for "BCW." That was written by a critic paid to listen to music and review it for a major publication. Is he/she that depserate to get new P songs?
Ignorance is just too darn popular around these parts. We have people protesting P for not releasing anything physical (except RNRLA a few months ago) and protesting him for not releasing in WAV (which he is now). Then we have fans whiney about other fans hating the new tracks because they only liked PURPLE RAIN or whatever the flip.
Ignorance is too darn popular around here.

You like every damn thing the man farts out, so your opinions and words are meaningless to me, just as probably mine are to you.
And that's funny to hear you say that you're an actual adult. Methinks you're lying about that one.

This song definitely sounds like a rough demo that might have stayed in the vault 20 years ago. And for that, I'm glad to hear it. But it's my least favorite of the bunch. It sounds like something that any of my reasonably talented musician friends could have made. That said, I like this 3rdeyegirl project overall. And I'm looking forward to more releases. I guarantee if that very same critic shitted on his material, you along with everyone else would say he/she didn't know what the fuck they were talking about (as is prone to be said about those who say or feel something different than what the new NPGMC forum AKA the org does).
And your examples? One song for each person (and ONLY two examples at that, mind you). You didn't hear those same people say shit else about any of the other tracks he's put out, did you? But you look at the threads/stickies here, you'll find the exact same people saying the same "it's slammin'", "a masterpiece", "the best of them so far" type comments for each and EVERY single one, right on down the line as a new song gets released.

There really is only a small percentage of orgers that are bitching. The majority of people who have bought the track love it and think it fits in with the other released tracks. It almost seems like a story book as each song is released. Outside of the org, the feedback on the internet abroad is much more positive than anything read here. This is probably the most negative space to be a Prince fan.
