the best president's day gift a brother can ask for . he's reverted back to his youth. maturely. on his own terms. i can relate to his struggle. an everyday one .
I like the fact that we can pay him straight for tunes without a middle man. He can up what he wants and we can take what we want. I'd rather have preview clips before having to buy everything though.
This 'Girl Thang' is an absolute masterpiece . I've never heard him play acoustic so well as I've never heard The Truth, Don't Play Me etc. or anything else that's gone before. (Just pullin ya pisser Schro). Lyrically I'd say it's nothing short of poetic. Beautifully scuplted and dripping with emotion. Something any twelve year old boy would rightly be proud of writing.
If it's a 'work in progress' fair enough but I'm not sure what he's up to with the sound. It's as if he's trying to create an out-take feeling which is pretty funny to me. Like the ending, it sounds like he had to hide his mics real quick before he caught himself recording.
Fair enough for 56p. Keep em comin, honestly, I do appreciate em.
People who are opining that they don't like this song are missing the point: This isn't a song - yet. It's a sketch of a song, an outline, a doodle.
How many times have we said (well, some of us, anyway), "I wish I could get more of a sense of Prince's creative process? I'd love to hear the evolution of a song." That's what this is. He's letting us into the studio (or maybe his living room) as a fly on the wall. This is a gift, people. Recognize it.
I have said many times that some of my favorite bootlegs are rehearsals. I love to hear him working out arrangements and sound, and cueing the band. Maybe it's my own work as an actor, but I often find the process more interesting than the finished product. I'm really grateful to Prince for letting me get a glimpse into his journey for 88 cents.
Does it say "demo" on the 3rdEyeGirl website? Nope! Did we pay to download it? Yes!
This isn't a bootleg. It's an official release and we're allowed an opinion on it.
I've personally never asked to listen in on Prince's creative process. I'm happy just buying and listening to the end product. In this case the end product doesn't do a great deal for me. But that's okay.
I think that 'scratch' could be a secret message? If you slow it right down and play it backwards it sounds like he's saying "Hello, how are you? I'm selling iffy tunes cheap from a bargain bucket".. I could be wrong though.
Why the heck did they put this in a .zip file when it only saves about 2mb in this case?? There's no real point .ZIPping .WAV files as the advantage is miniscule.
Also the file extension of the unzipped file defaults to end in .ZIP meaning if you try and drag the download to your normal folder you have to rename the file as otherwise it clashes....grrrr!
These are schoolboy errors that any good computer savvy person knows...
Anyhow...... nice song. Reminds me a bit of a Kate Bush song.....(?Babushka)
Let's hope he follows this with a release of U WILL B.

this was probably an effort to keep people from using up their downloads by accidentaly streaming it 3 times while they were trying to scrape together enough brain cells to get on their computer.

Weird, my unzipped one is just That Girl Thang.wav
Why do you say this? Because of the liner notes?!? Never believe liner notes on a Prince Protege's album.
I believe these though. Why do people insist that Prince has written every not and word of everything he has ever been close to? While I'm sure Prince had a big hand in the sound of the album, is it inconceivable that Andy wrote the words? She had written stuff before Prince showed up.
I don't insist he wrote it all, I insist it is possible he wrote it all. It's also possible that he wrote what is credited to Andy and she wrote what is credited to him. Based on his history, liner notes are not trustworthy.
Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.
Ahhhhhh, Prince, my man....this is such a gem of a song. Feel like you're really sharing a part of you with this one. THANK YOU.
And btw, Breakfast Can Wait has now officially become a part of me. You, or whoever you are channelling, are an endless source of inspiration, in musical form.

U unzipped That Girl Thang??? Wow...horny thoughts now LOL
LOL what i mean is the folder that gets unzipped matches the name of the actual .wav so when you try and copy the file out to your downoad folder it won't let u as the names match so u have to change it manually.
I dig it. It's just Prince and an acoustic guitar. Can't really compare it to anything else of his right now. Almost sounds like a demo. Not quality wise, it's just really stipped down. At one point it sounds like he bumps the mike. At the end of the song u hear some tape hiss along with hearing him reach to stop the recording.
lol when listening I thought iTunes went to another song when I heard the "click" like someone bumped a mike or turned off a recorder. It was the end of this song. Nice touch.
I'm really liking this song. I don't get why it's in a zip though I mean, it's nothing to complain about obviously but it's just weird. I kinda wish these downloads had album art for them too, or at least a promotional picture packaged with each one, it would make collecting the songs/pictures kind of fun.
Purple is the color of my heart,
Bruised from you leaving me.

Can you read? I didn't say it was a bootleg. I said the bootlegs I enjoy most are those of rehearsals - not that this is one. If Prince put it out himself, it is, by definition, not a bootleg. Duh.
I also didn't say people aren't entitled to their opinions. But this is clearly not a finished song. The glitch at :51 and the sound of him turning off the recording at the end is proof of that.
So what if you didn't ask to be in on his creative process? A) I never said you did and B) I don't really give a fuck if you like it or not.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I wouldn't be so sure. It's been a long time, but remember that Prince used to release stuff with similar mistakes/glitches all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if he feels like this is worth leaving as is, warts and all.

As has been said already, it's probably in a zip file to avoid the problems people have had accidentally streaming stuff from 3rd eye and losing one of the limited downloads. You can't accidentally stream a zip so it avoids the problem.

With regard to your last statement, Genesia, could you be any more aggressive?

haha you smoove shut ..Toby (lol)... the fuck down

love,
Spirit
I hope so. It gets me wet when she does that.
Happy to oblige, errant.
Mr./Ms. Otter, I would suggest that it was tobydavies who got aggressive with me. He clearly did not read my post, and yet, he ascribed statements and sentiments to me that I did not express. Got pretty snotty about it, too.
He got as good as he gave, not that it's any of your business. Go post some of your usual rambling, non-sensical blather elsewhere.
There ya go, errant. That oughta finish the job for you.

Just listened to it again. Smooth, giving me a "fresh cut grass" feeling. Very evocative. If he made an entire CD like this I'd be happy. It'd be up there with "The Truth" album to me.
