NPGOnlineLtd.com Downloads

Was just checking in on the wonderful Princevault and came across a version of Gett Off I've never heard before. A live version that was an npgonlineltd.com only download. So my question is, what other tracks were made available to download from the defunct site (and which I now have to track down). All I can find online are details of the preceding NPG Music Club material...

I don't think there were many free mp3 downloadable tracks during the Npgonlineltd days. Gett Off live was one and I'm pretty sure U Make My Sunshine and When Will We Be Paid (Staples Singers cover) were two more.

I seem to recall that streaming tracks such as Still The One (Shania Twain cover) was during that official site incarnation in 2000.

The free snippet of Funk Radio was around then too.

When I Lay My Hands On U was the free full mp3 song to lure you into the NPG Music Club so that must have been when it changed over in 2001.

Others might remember it differently...

Thanks for the insight KeithyT. This was all a little bit before my time so it's really helping the completist in me. It's a shame that all the other downloadable tracks have been released since except Gett Off Live. It's looking like that's the only one on my hit list then unless someone can shed more light...

I think the Gett Of live was from the Ruby Skye show in SF?

I think Cybersingle was on there. Also U Make My Sun Shine and When Will We Be Paid. don't remember any live versions, but I probably just didn't bother.

Funk Radio and You're Still The One were from thedawn.com, right? or was that gone by then? they were around the time of NPS, so probably love4oneanother.com

can't remember all of them. some of them were just mirrors for the other sites or transitional ones that were exactly like the preceding one

There were several live tracks with a very poor sound quality, streaming only (I remember Purple rain and something with Larry G. I think).

As errant said of course! Cybersingle was definitely one from NPGonlineltd.

I also vaguely remember the page that had the streaming tracks that databank mentions above. Was the page called Jamz or Noize or something like that.

There were only ever about 5 or 6 tracks there and they didn't ever get updated/added to. I guess Prince was already planning the 2001 NPGMC monthly download format.

Try this wink

Check out the Groovez, livetrax and Vault sections.

You can see the Release Urself (Live) and Purple Rain (Live) tracks that databank mentioned...

This is bringing back too many memories of being on awful dial-up connection initally.

It was a painful process to get the streaming tracks to play for me. I seem to recall using RealPlayer and as others have mentioned the sound quality was all scratchy and horrible.

I think I got Ure Still The One to play once, (not sure if that was the love4oneanother initial stream in 1999 or the npgonline stream in 2000), never did work out how to save it from a stream back then.

The three or so mp3 tracks that you could actually right click and save as... were much better. Got em, kept em, still in my Prince musci folders now I think lol

KeithyT can you confirm the other two tracks were in fact U Make My Sun Shine and When Will We B Paid? I'm not too fussed about those that were stream only but I am interested in the downloads. In which case, only Gett Off Live is unique since it hasn't been released since. Thanks again for all your help guys; very insightful.

Yes. I also just checked princevault.com and it confirms U Make My Sunshine was first released as a download in Dec 2000 on NPGonlineltd.com

Although I could not see When Will We Be Paid listed in a similar way I am 100% sure it was a "double a-side download" with U Make My Sunshine at the exact same time. I think I even downloaded the official artwork from the download page (very similar to the retail version of the CD single of the two tracks that was released later).
