non hits songs that made your friends into fans

Did you ever convert a friend of yours into a fan of Prince with some obscure track that just clicked the right way ?i have a friend who respected Prince but never considered Prince to be amazing musician.as a kids we were arguingwho plays better Slash or Prince.one day we were driving in my car andthe heard the last 3 songs from The Rainbow Children. And my friend was totally blown away,he started raving:Omg OmG,i never heard anything this good.Prince is amazing a stuff like that. Now days he is a big fan and whenever i play him some good guitarist,he says:This is shit Do you know what Prince would do if this was his song.

Don't Play Me

A friend called me the other night going crazy over "Delirious," asking me what album it's from. I thought everyone knew that song, but she had heard for the first time in the grocery store of all places. biggrin

The same friend became a fan after hearing the 3121 album. She loved just about the whole thing.

I played Breakfast Can Wait for one of my friends and she loved it! I was like "Wow.... U didn't like Sign O The Times, or Elephants And Flowers, but U like this? Okay, different strokes for different folks"

I got my other friend hooked on Screwdriver. Its gotten to the point where I yell "I'M YO DRIVER," and she goes "YOUR MY SCREEEW!!". Then we start yelling the rest of the words. It sounds pretty awful, but hey! Funk Soldiers in training! music

I have no other Prince fan friends other than you guys. I can guarantee that each and every one of my mates will put on SooT or PR if I ask for something by him. And then they'll say how he had a hip removed to blow himself, terrible things about his child (The Sun newspaper article), how he's gay and so on. Most of it to see if I'll bite. Which I don't because I really couldn't give a shit since I left my teens/early twenties. I have a life. My mate Sue thinks he's one of the ugliest men she's ever seen, whereas my wife (long suffering) partly agrees but says that when she saw him live she would have jumped into bed with him in an instant. My wife likes Prince. She has no fucking choice really smile

Yeah, seriously, Dolphin? If Prince hadn't of had the 80s I'm not sure what would have gotten me into his music. Batman perhaps?

I think it was me listening to Vanity 6 on cassette in my first car in college that made them realize what a wicked producer/instrumentalist/writer he could be.

I've surprised people with 17 Days, Let's Pretend We're Married, The Beautiful Ones, Dorothy Parker, Shhh, Endorphinmachine, In this Bed Eye Scream, Love, Colonized Mind, and, yes, P Control.

songs that worked by accident in the past:

The Cross -- this was more than 10 years ago, and my friend who got into this song still tells me he feels weird about it because he's Jewish. but the song is just that good

Extraloveable, the outtake version -- a classmate of mine heard me playing it, and he was like "wow, that must've almost been a hit." he was floored when i told it had never been released.

you know what's interesting -- when prince finally released Xtraloveable, it couldn't be purchased. that's kind of ironic. there's no way to legally get the official release, at least not yet.

Wasn't it on iTunes AND Amazon?!? Yeah, pretty sure it was...

searching...

still is, it's $1.29 on iTunes and $0.99 on Amazon. It's spelled Extraloveable if you do a search, won't come up if you use the Xtra spelling.
