Girls & Boys ~Prince & the Revolution
Music From the Motion Picture Under The Cherry Moon
Maybe
Your favorite live performance? Characters in the video? Video facts? instruments used? musicians featured? song involvement?
...and above all in the sensational "Girls & Boys," Prince conceives a clean, diamond-hard style that could spawn years of imitations. - BY DAVITT SIGERSON 4.24.1986

I was so excited when he played this at the Rio show I was at. I finally got to do the "Girls & Boys" dance. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Favorite live performance is from the SOTT tour. It is from a bootleg, but not sure of the name of it. Sheila E sings the lines, "Life is precious baby, love is so rare. I can take the breakup if you say that you care." I rewind that part of the song like 10 times when I listen to it.
Also loved the bands entrances in the video and Wendy and Susannahs look. Kind of annoying that you could tell Prince's performance and the bands were done at separate times. TRUE BLUE

R U sure they were done at different times?
What about Prince on the same stage parts with Eric Wally Jerome Gregory
and the ending is the whole band with Prince posing

lol cool, that is a nice movement 4 a song. Did you take it down and up again like Prince or just side to side?

Initial tracking took place on 8 July, 1985 at the Washington Avenue Warehouse, Eden Prairie, MN, USA. Clare Fischer arranged and recorded orchestration for the song at some point in mid-late 1985 at Monterey Sound Studios, Glendale, CA, USA, but Prince preferred the track without orchestration, and chose to use the track without orchestration for the final release.

She had the cutest ass he ever seen But he did 2, they were meant 2 be. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Love this song from the first moment I heard it. I still love it. I also own that vinyl you show- I believe it comes with a poster. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Talking about the scenes taken from the film Under the Cherry Moon. The band wasn't present in the movie, but I'm sure you know that. TRUE BLUE

I looked at it again and there is the video take with Prince and the band and then the clips from the G&B scene from the movie. Of course there are the scenes with Prince Jerome (solo) and Kristen

Under the Cherry Moon film score 22. Girls & Boys (making a scene at the restaurant)
Christopher Tracy: [writing something on a napkin] It's obvious that little Miss Mary has never been off the city block.
Following the smash success of its predecessor "Kiss", "Girls & Boys" peaked at number 11 in the UK charts, but was not released as a single in America. Prince's former drummer, Bobby Z. later commented that the song may have helped the entire album and film achieve bigger success, 'second singles sometimes weren't right... Kiss was a complete smash and set the album up huge. In my opinion it should then have been Girls & Boys, not Mountains'. The music video for the single consisted of clips from the film and separately-shot footage of The Revolution, including Prince's then-fiancee Susannah Melvoin.
Girls & Boys is a funk offering featuring both live drumming as well as Linn drum machine. The keyboard hook is a peculiar duck-like sound. This is the first official Prince single to include saxophone contributions of Eric Leeds. The lyrics speak of characters similar to Christopher and Mary from Under the Cherry Moon, although their actions are not seen in the film. The song includes a seduction spoken by Marie France in French, as well as an early attempt by Prince to deliver a short rap. Background vocals are Sheila E., Wendy & Lisa, and Susannah Melvoin. -wikipedia quoted

what can i say other than i love it baby, i love it so much love the song, love the video too the black and white, the soirée setting Prince cavorting on the piano the band walkin' in with a Savoir-faire attitude Eric making his entrance while blowin' his sax for me this song is all about the sax Jerome crackin' up over Prince saying 'Boo' at the end of the video while calling the band by their names i always thought that to be remarkable, especially in hindsight

Marie France - French spoken word (credited for "French seduction")
Marie France is a graduate of fine arts from a Beaux Arts School and of liberal arts from the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She has been designing costumes for 27 years, and began her career collaborating with musician-composer Prince, designing his features "Purple Rain" and "Under the Cherry Moon", and his music videos.
U were on the other end of the room

This song is a perfect example of Prince having his own sound ie Purple Music
I think this song shows Prince creating sounds not following trends. Even where the little 'rapping' comes into the song, it doesn't follow suite with 'Rap' styles that were out there. He didn't change to get with that genre, he changed it... I love this songs
And the video just reminds me of how Under the Cherry Moon should have been and why having band scenes would have blown the movie away...
I remember seeing the trailer and the way it played out looked like there were possible band scenes and I must admit I was disappointed, cause Girls & Boys video was seriously awesome

New Musical Express
Next up, 'Girls And Boys' is an adolescent 'Lady Marmalade' replete with "sauce" French bits and set to the beat of 'Take Me With U'.
